GENERAL DESCRIPTION/ JOB SUMMARY
This position will work under the supervision of the pharmacist. Assists in the preparation and the dispensing of compounded medications in our 795-compounding laboratory.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Selects and/or prepares medications, under direct supervision, as indicated on the patient medication orders. Match compounding orders against lot numbers on order requisition sheets and labels.
• Effectively prepare and organize all compounded products for pharmacist review. Places medications in designated area for pharmacist to check.
• Effectively use pharmacy computer system to create and review formula logs as well as print labels, worksheets, and manage inventory.
• Correctly use equipment necessary for preparing compounded products.
• Select proper packaging for compounded products i.e. correct bottle size, tube size, etc.
• Use proper compounding and labeling techniques emphasizing pharmaceutical elegance when making medications.
• Restocks unused chemicals and stock medications. Clean areas, lab supplies and equipment after every compound prepared. Responsible for daily, weekly and monthly cleanings of the entire lab, hoods, equipment and surfaces along with the other technicians.
• Communicates to the pharmacist any medication or other items for reorder as necessary to maintain a continuous inventory of medications and supplies.
• Follows strict procedures for gowning and use of personal protective equipment, such as gowns, shoe and hair covers, gloves, eye protection, and appropriate masks or respirators.
• Understand and locate Material Safety Data Sheet “MSDS”/ Safety Data Sheet "SDS" guidelines for maintaining safety and managing safety events.
• Locate and demonstrate general knowledge of the companies Standard Operating Procedures, SOP.
• Has thorough understanding of USP 795 guidelines.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS/SPECIAL TRAINING, CERTIFICATIONS, SKILLS
• Must be Certified Pharmacy Technician(CPhT) and a Registered Pharmacy Technician(rPhT) in Florida
• 1 year of Experience in a Retail or Hospital Pharmacy
• Minimum of a High School Education with basic math skills
• Strong verbal and written communication skills in English
• Ability to multitask
• Strong organizational skills and detail oriented
• Previous compounding experience preferred
• Must be fluent in the English language
PHYSICAL/HEALTH REQUIREMENTS
While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is also required to stand, walk, lift, pull and/or push, carry, grasp, reach, stoop and crouch. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision and color determination. In addition, employee will be required to pass a medical evaluation for FIT testing for half face and full face respirator use and wear all necessary personal protective equipment.
