Department of Environmental Science and Policy - Lecturer Hire

The Department of Environmental Science and Policy at the University of Miami's Rosenstiel School of Marine, Atmospheric, and Earth Science is recruiting a lecturer.

The core responsibilities include instruction of key department courses and advising of undergraduate and graduate students. We invite applicants with skills and interest in teaching core GIS classes, spatial analysis (via Arc-like products or R) with environmental applications, and environmental policy or law. The position includes advising and related support of undergraduate students and Master of Professional Science (MPS) students, especially in the marine conservation MPS track. Successful candidates may draw from diverse disciplinary and professional backgrounds relevant to environmental science and policy. We seek candidates with experiences, skills, and vision relevant to guiding and supporting thriving undergraduate and MPS programs and effectively engaging with students in and out of the classroom.

The Department's mission is solutions-oriented, policy-relevant research and scholarship, training the next generations of environmental managers, practitioners, and research scientists (https://environmental-science-policy.earth.miami.edu/). Our faculty are leading scholars in the applied environmental social sciences dedicated to addressing pressing ocean, coastal, and climate challenges central to long-term sustainability and resilience. We are the hub at the Rosenstiel School for connecting the natural sciences with society and policy. Research-based education, field experiences, and scholarship connected with communities and policymaking are central in our student programs. Our work is supported by major university-wide interdisciplinary initiatives, such as the Abess Center for Ecosystem Science and Policy and the University Laboratory for Integrative Knowledge (U-LINK).

The Department of Environmental Science and Policy is grounded in the intrinsic relationship between diversity and excellence and is strongly committed to fostering and sustaining open, equitable access to learning as our mission and our obligation. The Department seeks faculty who would add to the Rosenstiel School's long-standing goal of increasing diversity, inclusion, and equity across our departments. We are especially interested in scholars who demonstrate evidence of promoting diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging in teaching, service, and research.

Applications will be considered at the Lecturer rank and possibly the Senior Lecturer rank for candidates with exceptional qualifications. The appointment is expected to start in August 2025. To be eligible for appointment, applicants must have a Ph.D. or terminal degree (e.g., J.D.) in Environmental Science and Policy or a related field by the expected start date of August 2025.

Applications must include:

•Current CV

•Teaching statement

•A statement that explains your contributions to diversity, equity, and inclusion

•The names and contact information of three references

Applicants can upload all application documents in a single PDF or in up to five documents (5MB per file) under the Resume/CV section of the online application.
