Job DescriptionSurvey & AutoCAD Technician — Connect the Field to the Future

Location: Jacksonville, FL
Employment Type: Full-Time

At Petticoat-Schmitt Civil Contractors, Inc., we don’t just build infrastructure — we build life-changing infrastructure. We’re looking for a Survey & AutoCAD Technician who thrives at the intersection of field and office work — turning precise field data into high-quality deliverables that drive construction success.

This role is ideal for someone with hands-on construction survey experience and AutoCAD Civil 3D proficiency who wants to grow into a key technical contributor supporting layout, data collection, and as-built documentation for major civil construction projects.

What You’ll Do

Field & Office Integration

  • Collect and process field data for construction layout, grading, utilities, and as-built verification.

  • Set up, operate, and troubleshoot GPS, robotic total stations, and data collectors.

  • Work alongside survey crews to ensure accurate data capture and seamless coordination between field and office.

Drafting & Documentation

  • Build and process job files in AutoCAD Civil 3D, including surfaces, alignments, and points.

  • Draft final deliverables — including as-built/record drawings, construction layout maps, and control plans — with minimal supervision.

  • Maintain project organization and CAD standards as directed by the Survey Manager and Senior Survey Technician.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Interpret construction plans, elevations, and specifications to ensure data accuracy.

  • Communicate effectively with field crews, engineers, and project managers to resolve discrepancies.

  • Support survey department initiatives to improve efficiency and accuracy in data workflows.

What We’re Looking For

Qualifications

  • 1–2 years of field survey experience (construction layout, utilities, or civil site work strongly preferred).

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D (required).

  • Experience operating GPS and total stations (Trimble or Topcon preferred).

  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings.

  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and self-motivation.

  • Professional attitude and commitment to teamwork.

Preferred

  • Experience preparing as-built drawings or survey documentation for site development or utility projects.

  • Familiarity with HCSS HeavyJob or similar construction software.

You’ll Succeed Here If You

  • Are equally comfortable working outdoors on-site and preparing detailed drawings in the office.

  • Deliver accurate, dependable survey data that keeps projects on schedule.

  • Take initiative, ask questions, and continuously grow your skills.

  • Value clear communication, collaboration, and professional excellence.

Our Core Values (A.C.T.)

  • Accountability – Safety first, clear expectations, execution, and ownership.

  • Character – Integrity, respect, trustworthiness, humility.

  • Team – Shared goals, servant leadership, and determination to win together.

What We Offer

  • Competitive pay with performance-based incentives.

  • Monthly Safety Bonus – Earned when the company goes recordable-incident free.

  • PTO and Paid Holidays available.

  • Comprehensive Health Coverage Options: Multiple plans, including a 100% company-paid High Deductible Health Plan (employee-only coverage).

  • Dental, Vision, Short/Long-Term Disability, and Accident Coverage.

  • Up to $50,000 employer-paid life insurance.

  • 401(k) with 100% match on the first 4%.

  • Ongoing training and professional development opportunities.

  • Employee-Owned (ESOP): Every team member has a direct stake in our success.

Work Schedule

  • Hours: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

  • Workweek: 40 hours; overtime may be required based on project needs.

  • Occasional Saturday work as necessary.

What We Expect

  • Pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen.

  • Maintain a professional appearance and attitude — representing the company with integrity and respect.

  • Live out Petticoat-Schmitt’s Accountability, Character, and Teamwork values in everything you do.
