Assurant is seeking a Director of Compliance for the Miami, FL office


Primary Job Responsibilities


  • In consultation with upper management and subordinate personnel, develops and implements short- and long-term departmental goals and plans. This includes but is not limited to: (a) developing efficient workflow patterns, (b) establishing procedures and policies; (c) ensuring suitable staffing levels; (d) purchasing databases and/or systems to facilitate work flow or to comply with state requirements; (e) developing training programs for area personnel, and (f) enhancing current systems.
  • The Compliance Director is responsible for creating foundational systemic infrastructure that will support the creation of corporate dashboards and reporting. To do so, he/she must first become a subject matter expert by identifying data source locations throughout various compliance groups. He/she will be responsible for working directly with IT, operational areas, all levels of management (predominately Director and above) within and outside of the compliance team in order to successfully deliver on each initiative. Responsible for launching, managing and finishing out major initiatives, process development and improvement. Advises and provides input to direct reports on their projects. Attends meetings and provides status reports and updates to the business and Senior management.
  • Translates compliance objectives into business requirements as it relates to system design, database schema, and table configuration. Resolves complex, non-routine problems and issues where no precedent has been identified. This is accomplished by finding efficiencies to automate processes and finding technical solutions wherever applicable. Analyzes complex processes, interfaces and sub-system problems to create efficient maintenance and enhancements of said entities.
  • Represents department on project teams, cross-site and intra-departmental meetings and training provided to other departments. Prepares productivity reports for senior management and businesses. Communicates approved policies and procedures to direct reports and ensures compliance.
  • The Compliance Director is responsible for encouraging and developing a culture of clear communication among the different groups. Instills confidence in leadership ability and facilitates team participation, conflict resolution, and consensus building. Utilizes a variety of rewards and recognition methods to motivate team members.
  • Hires, develops and trains direct reports. Investigates all issues concerning his/her area of responsibility and its personnel and taking corrective or disciplinary action if necessary. Provides employee development and performance evaluation. This function includes: (a) establishing performance standards for department including audit procedures; (b) establishing career progression standards; and (c) performing semi-annual and annual reviews of direct reports.
  • Responsible for preparing disaster recovery plan for the department and ensuring area complies with data security and SOX requirements.




RESPONSIBILITY FOR WORK OF OTHERS

  • Director is responsible for managers, supervisors, contract development analysts and/or compliance analysts. He/she may have 2-5 direct reports.

This position is a grade 13


Basic qualifications:


  • Education (List alternatives; e.g., BA plus 6 yrs. experience in related work experience
  • 6 years of senior level project management experience
  • 6 years of Process improvement experience
  • 6 years of experience in project management of major initiatives
  • 6 years of experience managing technical resources
  • 2 years of experience in a PMO Environment
  • 2 years of experience in a leadership position with management of staff.
  • 2 years of expertise in working on a system development environment with the goal of transforming the overall organization process, people and technology
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to effectively perform duties
  • Management skills and the ability to effectively prioritize work activities for direct reports to meet tight deadlines
  • Ability to balance compliance with business and company strategies and directives
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity and the corresponding ability to make decisions or recommendations on incomplete information
  • Strong interpersonal ability to effectively interact with direct reports, insurance departments and internal and external representatives
  • Knowledge of human resource policies and procedures
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products and become proficient with compliance software programs
  • PMP Certification
