Position Summary:
The Senior Accountant is responsible for assisting in managing the day-to-day accounting operations of the country club, ensuring accurate financial reporting, timely month-end closings, and compliance with internal controls. This role supports the Director of Finance and works closely with department heads to provide financial insights that aid in the club's financial success.
Key Responsibilities:
Accounting & Financial Reporting
- Assist in preparing and reviewing journal entries, general ledger reconciliations, and month-end closing activities.
- Maintain and reconcile balance sheet and income statement accounts.
- Assist in preparing monthly financial statements for management and board review.
- Assist in the development of annual budgets and forecasts.
- Ensure all financial records are maintained in compliance with club policies and regulatory guidelines.
Accounts Payable
- Complete accounts payable while ensuring proper coding and timely payments.
- Reconcile merchant accounts monthly.
- Prepare and process monthly Sales Tax returns.
- Maintain and update the Fixed Asset listing.
- Maintain vendor contact records, vendor liability certificate of insurance/workers compensation.
Internal Controls & Audits
- Maintain and improve internal accounting procedures and controls.
- Assist with all inventories on a quarterly basis.
- Assist with annual audits and tax return preparation, coordinating with external auditors and tax professionals.
Systems & Technology
- Utilize club management software (Clubessential) for financial reporting and accounting functions.
- Support software upgrades and integrations with accounting systems.
Preferred Experience:
- Experience in private club accounting, hospitality, or nonprofit financial management.
- Knowledge of membership billing, F&B as well as merchandise cost accounting, and capital project tracking.
Work Environment:
- Typical office setting within a private club. Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required during special events or fiscal deadlines.
Requirements:
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
- HFTP designation preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience; hospitality or Country Club industry experience strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of internal controls.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software (experience with Clubessential preferred)
- High level of integrity, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
