Up-And-Coming Miami Industries

Diverse Workers

If you were to ask a tourist what comes to mind when they hear the word ‘Miami’, it’s likely they’d answer with something along the lines of sunshine, beaches, or vacation. The truth is, Miami is typically dubbed as a prime hot spot for out-of-towners, but there is so much more to the city than what meets the eye. The population is steadily growing, industries are booming, and although tourism is here to stay, there are a few other industries predicted to surge in the next couple of years. According to Endeavor Miami, the technology, food/beverage, media, and finance industries have shown vast amounts of growth potential. Only time will tell if these productions have the ability to one day surpass the notable tourism industry, but for now, get used to seeing these up and coming Miami industries around town:

Technology

Technology

The tech industry is heating up here in Miami, and start-ups, such as Live Answer, InList, and Klink, are virtually everywhere.  People are becoming increasingly comfortable with the idea of quitting their 9 to 5 job in favor of entrepreneurship. According to the Kauffman index, Miami is the second most entrepreneurial city in the United States, with approximately 247.6 startups per every 100,000 people. However, start-ups aren’t the only companies who are calling this area home. Seasoned companies such as Google, Twitter, Facebook, and Uber have also recently opened headquarters up in Miami.

Food/Beverage

As the people continue to roll in, so does the need for sustenance. New and innovative restaurants are opening daily, with one of those being the unique and delicious My Ceviche in South Beach. Those who are nutrition conscious canstop by My Ceviche for affordable, made-to-deliver order ceviches, tacos, burritos, and salads. If you’re more of a stay-at-home kind of guy or girl, you can opt to have your healthy meals delivered straight to your door, courtesy of DeliverLean. With DeliverLean, you simply log online to pick your meal plan, they will cook it fresh, and it’s subsequently delivered right to your doorstep. Be on the lookout for plenty more of these in the future, because the food/beverage industry is expected to grow furiously in the future.

Media

Film Camera

While Miami has been a popular location for countless movies, TV shows, and other film projects, this past October things got real serious when a $14.5 million dollar movie and TV production studio was opened up in the heart of Miami. In what was formerly a rundown building, the brand new film studio features a 50-foot roof, two fully operational film sound stages measuring in at 15,000 square feet each, and another 15,000 square feet of offices, editing suites and support rooms. Its tenant is none other than Viacom, an entertainment group notorious for the creations of Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, and MTV.

Finance

At one point, employment in the financial sector was practically stagnant. Fortunately, times have changed. Financial services in Miami are currently growing at a rate of about 4 percent, which is significantly faster than the rest of the country. The growth is largely contributed to the migration of wealthy individuals to Miami, as well as the development of businesses in the Miami area. With an increase in real estate activity, comes the inevitable increase in the need for financial services.

The local job market is expected to continue increasing as these up and coming industries continue to grow. Tourism may have ruled the town in the past, but the technology, food/beverage, media, and finance industries are rapidly catching up. Whether you currently reside in Miami, or are looking into rendering it your future home, you have endless opportunities to excel in the field of your choosing.
