Job Description:\n\n JOB TITLE: Recreation Supervisor EMPLOYER: City of West Park DEPARTMENT: Parks & Recreation REPORTS TO: Recreation Manager STATUS: Full Time - Exempt (Salary Employee) SALARY: $41,600 to 54,080.00 SUMMARY: This is professional and supervisory work with administrative responsibility in the management of the City’s parks. Employees in this class are responsible for supervising the operation of neighborhood parks with varied recreation programs and facilities such as ball fields, tennis courts, basketball courts and recreation centers, and park facilities. Emphasis of the work is on planning and supervising rental activities at City Parks; the work of recreational and maintenance personnel, routine facility maintenance and program administration. Duties include program planning and implementation, activity scheduling, revenue producing activities and coordination of special events. Work is performed independently within the scope of departmental rules, regulations and program policy. Supervision is exercised over subordinate maintenance supervisors, maintenance employees and recreational specialists engaged in recreational programming and facility maintenance. Supervision is received from a park and recreation manager who reviews work for achievement of desired objectives through periodic facility inspections, personal conferences and written reports. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Plans, assigns, and reviews the work of subordinate recreation and maintenance personnel engaged in conducting a limited recreation program, organized athletic events, games, and special or generalized classes of instruction for all age groups in a variety of recreational activities. Coordinates activities of crews or contractor engaged in landscape maintenance procedures such as fertilization and pest control; issues work orders for repair of equipment or facilities by various tradesmen; identifies needs for renovation or replacement of facilities or equipment. Coordinates with supervisors to plan overall city recreation programs and maintain maximum participation; schedules diversified recreation activities; rearranges work schedules in the event of postponement or cancellation. Prepares reports on facility operation, maintenance and participation; makes recommendations concerning program application and possible improvements; prepares budget estimates. Requisitions equipment, materials, and supplies and maintains inventory. Makes recommendations regarding hiring, discipline, and promotion of subordinates; authorizes leave and overtime; evaluates and rates employee performance. Performs related work as required.Administers all financial aspects of office operations including intake of program, registration, facility rental fees; as well as box office and concession monies.Prepares daily cash reports and receipts. Communicates regularly with the general public; and handles customer questions, complaints and suggestions. Oversees all program promotions including obtaining sponsors and advertising in-house events.Writes press releases; and designs flyers and brochures.Creates and manages facility event calendar/schedule. Enforces recreational and park/facility policies, procedures and regulations as they affect the participating public and departmental personnel. Performs basic administrative duties including written reports, memorandums, letters, electronic correspondence, interaction with others and communication through telephone and meetings.Maintain records of all Youth Programs equipment.Enforces safety policies and procedures and assist in rendering first aid, if necessary.Work directly with funding agencies to ensure proper compliance with all grant requirements, to include reporting and meeting deadlines. Performs routine maintenance inspections at all program facilities.Performs other related duties as assigned. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:Directly supervises employees within the program(s).Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.Responsibilities include interviewing, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor's degree in Park and Recreation Management, Business Administration, Public Administration, Recreation, Physical Education, Sports Administration, or related field. At least three (3) years’ experience in planning, organizing, conducting or supervising park and recreation services may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis. Must possess a Driver license. Other skills, knowledge and abilities required: Knowledge of the rules, techniques, and equipment requirements for various types of recreation, cultural, and/or historical activities for all ages.Knowledge and understanding of activities in a community historical or recreation program, including facilities.Ability to exercise judgment and discretion in applying and interpreting department rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.Knowledge of the objectives and activities of social recreational or historical programs.Knowledge of box office operations and financial reporting.Ability to maintain discipline and to solve disciplinary problems.Ability to contribute effectively to the accomplishment of the team or work unit goals, objectives, and activities.Ability to plan, organizes, and monitors social and leisure activities.Considerable knowledge of modern governmental office practices, procedures, equipment, and standard clerical and accounting techniques.Ability to make recommendations and to use resourcefulness and tact in solving new problems.Ability to plan, organizes, direct, and appraises the work of assigned personnel.Ability to prepare effective correspondence on routine matters and to perform routine administrative functions without referral to supervisor.Analytical and research skills; ability to ascertain priorities and meet deadlines and objectives.Strong written and oral communication skills.
