Job Description

Job Title: Financial Controller (Hospitality)

Schedule: Part-time

Location: On site, Miami, FL

Job Type: Consulting (temp)

Salary Range: $40 - $70 per hour

A fast-growing hospitality group operating multiple food and beverage locations is looking for a financial controller consultant. This culture is hands-on, team-oriented, and execution-driven. Currently building financial clarity and operational discipline so leadership can make confident decisions based on real-time performance data.

This role is a hands-on finance leader responsible for delivering reliable, timely financial reporting and profitability insights across multiple entities and locations. You will partner daily with restaurant management and leadership to strengthen controls, improve margins, implement labor and food cost discipline, and drive better pricing and menu decisions through portion costing. Success means leadership is no longer guessing about the numbers, and underperforming locations have a clear turnaround plan with measurable results.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate daily with restaurant and operational leaders to ensure clean financial workflows and accurate reporting.
  • Own the month-end close process across multiple entities and locations, including reconciliations and GAAP-compliant financial statements.
  • Produce clear location-level profitability reporting, including true contribution margin, prime cost, and EBITDA visibility per site.
  • Build and maintain labor models by role, shift, and sales volume; identify opportunities for staffing optimization and schedule discipline.
  • Lead food cost control, including portion costing, recipe costing, and price recommendations tied to target margins.
  • Support menu engineering and cost optimization initiatives to improve profitability without compromising guest experience.
  • Develop budgets, forecasts, and cash flow reporting, including variance analysis with practical recommendations.
  • Implement and improve financial control procedures, audit-ready documentation, and compliance with regulations and contractual requirements.
  • Oversee AR, credit extension practices, and collections for overdue accounts, when applicable.
  • Leverage and integrate POS and accounting systems (Aloha, Square, Toast, Restaurant365, or similar) to improve speed, accuracy, and visibility.
  • Provide practical feedback to founders and leadership, including clear prioritization of what matters most each week.
  • Diagnose underperforming locations and execute turnaround plans with measurable improvement targets.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience, ideally as a Controller or Finance Director.
  • Hospitality experience required.
  • Proven experience supporting multi-location operations and multi-entity structures (consolidations, intercompany activity, location P&Ls).
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and corporate finance/accounting principles, laws, and best practices.
  • Strong financial analysis and forecasting skills, with the ability to translate numbers into operational action.
  • Deep understanding of labor models, prime cost, and food cost control.
  • Experience with POS and accounting systems such as Square, Toast, QuickBooks, Restaurant365, or similar platforms.
  • Comfortable being hands-on inside a fast-moving hospitality operation.
  • Strong organizational, leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Fluent English required. Spanish fluency strongly preferred.
