The Staff Accountant is a top performer, a highly functioning professional who thrives in a mission-focused work environment. This position is tasked with performing accounting functions to ensure financial information is processed and prepared accurately and timely. Maintain the financial health of the Fiscal team ensuring timely monthly closing, reporting and reconciliation.

Responsibilities: The essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Maintain and reconcile the General Ledger including AP, Fixed Assets, Prepaid Accounts, Advances Received, etc.
  • Review and evaluate reconciliation of balance sheet accounts for accuracy and completeness
  • Provide support to the Financial Analyst in budgeting, forecasting and ad hoc reporting
  • Create custom reports and queries within the General Ledger
  • Ensure all outside funding reporting software’s reconciles with our Financial Software System
  • Provide support in the preparation of the monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements: Balance Sheet, Revenue and Expenditure, Cash Flow with detailed variance explanations of main drivers
  • Assist with the supporting schedules for the fiscal year-end audit and tax filings
  • Collaborate on internal and external audit process providing support with key accounts including communicating with auditors for any roll-forward schedules, evidentiary support and clarification
  • Troubleshoot and solve for discrepancies within the reconciliations in a timely manner
  • Review Accounts Receivables and Accounts Payable Aging
  • Prepare monthly Journal vouchers for monthly accruals
  • Collaborate with other departments to resolve issues
  • Implement operational best practices

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, required
  • CPA is a plus
  • 3-5 years of accounting experience
  • Experience in Non-Profit accounting and Grant management is highly preferred
  • Experience with MIP – ABILA software
  • US GAAP and Grant accounting knowledge
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including demonstrated expertise in Excel
  • Prior management or supervisor experience highly preferred
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills; able to clearly identify and articulate issues to senior management

SUPERVISION

This position analyzes all accounting functions from the Grant Analyst to ensure all accounting functions are accounted using GAAP standards to ensure compliance and be audit ready at all times.

In addition, ensures that all accounts payable expenses are booked properly, supports maintaining vendor relations, provides support with credit card reconciliations and provides support to the Development Team, ensuring all accounts are accurately recorded into our financial system, from the fundraising software system.
