Position Overview
As a Direct Buyer Specialist within the procurement team, you will be responsible for sourcing and acquiring critical major subcontracted and engineered items for Department of Defense (DoD) programs. This role is key to managing supplier relationships, overseeing the entire purchase order lifecycle, and collaborating with internal teams to support factory material needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage relationships and performance of assigned suppliers.
- Prepare and issue Requests for Proposals (RFPs).
- Place and manage medium to high complexity purchase orders, ensuring compliance with FAR/DFAR and internal standards.
- Support the development and execution of negotiation strategies; participate in negotiations involving pricing, delivery, scope, and terms & conditions.
- Conduct price and cost analysis to support proposal evaluations.
- Develop and maintain professional relationships with Tier-1 subcontractors.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Program Management, Operations, Engineering, and Quality.
- Maintain purchase orders to ensure accurate and timely delivery from suppliers.
- Monitor and report on key supplier performance indicators (KPIs) and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Assist in supporting long-term sourcing and contract compliance strategies.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience,
- OR
- Advanced degree in a related field with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
- Professional experience in procurement, supply chain management, finance, or a related field.
•Preferred Qualifications
- Experience using SAP for procurement activities.
- Familiarity with technical procurement requirements, including reviewing Statements of Work (SOWs).
- Strong knowledge of Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR/DFARS).
- Experience with a range of contract types (e.g., Cost Plus, Firm Fixed Price, Incentive-Based).
