Job Summary

We are seeking a compassionate and detail-oriented Veterinary Assistant / Veterinary Technician to support veterinarians and the clinical team in delivering high-quality animal care. The ideal candidate will assist with patient handling, medical procedures, client communication, and maintaining a clean and organized clinical environment.

Key Responsibilities

Patient Care & Clinical Support

  • Safely restrain animals during examinations and procedures

  • Assist veterinarians with exams, diagnostics, treatments, and minor procedures

  • Monitor patient behavior, vital signs, and recovery

  • Administer medications and treatments as directed (within scope of certification)

  • Prepare animals for surgery and assist during surgical procedures

Laboratory & Medical Tasks

  • Collect and prepare samples (blood, urine, fecal, etc.)

  • Perform basic laboratory tests and record results

  • Maintain accurate medical records and treatment logs

  • Clean, sterilize, and organize medical instruments and equipment

Client Interaction

  • Greet and assist clients in a professional and compassionate manner

  • Educate pet owners on basic care, medications, and post-treatment instructions

  • Answer phone calls, schedule appointments, and handle basic inquiries

Facility & Team Support

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized clinic environment

  • Follow safety, sanitation, and infection control protocols

  • Assist with inventory management and restocking supplies

  • Collaborate effectively with veterinarians, technicians, and support staff

Qualifications

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Genuine interest in animal care and welfare

  • Ability to handle animals safely and humanely

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment

Preferred:

  • Veterinary Assistant certification or Veterinary Technician license (or in progress) beneficial

  • Prior experience in a veterinary clinic or animal care setting

  • Knowledge of basic animal anatomy, medical terminology, and procedures

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand for extended periods

  • Ability to lift and restrain animals (up to 35lbs, with assistance as needed)

  • Comfortable working around animals, including those that may be stressed or injured

Work Environment

  • Indoor clinical setting with exposure to animals, medical equipment, and cleaning agents

  • May include evenings, weekends, or holidays depending on clinic hours
