JOB SUMMARY
The Manager, Product Owner (PO), Vessel Operations Analytics, defines and delivers data and analytics products that improve fleet performance, marine safety, fuel efficiency, itinerary planning, hotel operations, environmental compliance, crew operations, and overall shipboard decision-making. This role connects maritime operations with advanced analytics to help the fleet operate safer, greener, and more efficiently while enhancing the guest experience and ensure the organization leverages high-quality data and insights to drive informed operational decisions across the global fleet.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and communicate the analytics product strategy for Vessel Operations DSSP.
- Prioritize the product roadmap based on fleet objectives, regulatory requirements, ROI, and ROEx.
- Identify and implement opportunities to modernize operations using dashboards, machine learning/AI, and automated insights.
- Engage with Vessel Operations business owners, IT teams, and leadership to collaboratively plan and organize work efforts to achieve organizational objectives.
- Collaborate with Vessel Ops teams, including Marine Ops, Technical Ops, Environment & Health, Security Ops, Entertainment, Port Ops, Hotel Ops, Crew Welfare, and Marine Technology.
- Serve as a liaison between shipboard subject matter experts (SMEs), shoreside teams, and analytics developers and scientists.
- Conduct discovery sessions to ensure analytics accurately reflect real operational behavior.
- Understand business needs and use cases for data, organizing project activities around user stories.
- Refine user stories across teams to identify synergies, reusability, and consistency in data and analytics products.
- Identify opportunities to enhance efficiency, reduce manual effort, and streamline analytics product delivery and support.
- Drive adoption of data and analytics products, tools, and process improvements by training and supporting users.
- Lead an agile team of data engineers, BI developers, data scientists, maritime analysts, and QA professionals.
- Gather, clarify, and prioritize operating processes and requirements, facilitating workshops and discussions to drive innovation and overcome blockers.
- Ensure products are ship-ready and optimized for low-connectivity environments, coordinating delivery between onshore business teams and offshore analytics teams.
- Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs), ensure compliance, communicate benefits to stakeholders, and champion data quality and standardized metrics for self-service analytics.
QUALIFICATIONS
DEGREE TYPE: Bachelor's Degree
FIELD(S) OF STUDY: Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, Analytics, IS/IT, or related field
EXPERIENCE
- At least 5 years of experience as a Product Owner/Business Analyst in a data and/or analytics centric environment.
- Advanced knowledge of agile processes and methods.
- Solid understanding of agile story estimation using points.
- Solid understanding of data engineering methods and techniques.
- Ability to write SQL queries to assess data relationships and data quality issues.
- Professional experience writing user stories for data and analytics solutions.
COMPETENCIES/SKILLS
- Maritime or shipboard experience preferred; travel required.
- Familiarity with Snowflake, Streamlit, Tableau, Jira, and Confluence.
- Strong facilitation, requirements gathering, and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of change management and Agile/Lean delivery practices.
- Strong business acumen and ability to build business cases.
- Skilled in design thinking and workshop facilitation.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder-influencing skills.
- Detail-oriented, adaptable, and proactive in fast-paced environments.
- Understanding of APIs, data streaming
- Understanding of event layer and semantic layer concepts as apply to self -service analytics enablement
