The Compliance Nurse will serve as a consultant and educator in the area of nursing compliance and auditing. Participates in chart audits and subsequent one-on-one training with employees in the field. Responsible for developing assigned compliance program initiatives. Position will conduct general and focused audits of clinical documentation to determine completeness, consistency and appropriateness of documentation in the clinical record and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, CMS Conditions of Participation (COP’s), documentation in meeting Local Coverage Determinations (LCD) and Treasure Coast Hospice (TCH) policies and standards. Key expectations are identification of areas of clinical risk, development of recommendations for mitigation of those risks, participation in development and implementation of education and training of clinical staff related to the identified risks and full participation in the TCH Compliance Program.
Qualifications:
- Must have current Florida RN license.
- Must have valid Florida Driver’s license with current auto insurance.
- A minimum of one year of hospice experience with an in depth knowledge of COPs.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact with the staff in an instructional but nonjudgmental manner.
- Exceptional organizational ability and attention to detail.
- Attendance is a condition of employment.
Key Result Areas:
- Complete observational visits with staff and assess their documentation of the visit and provide feedback to the staff member.
- Participates in chart audits and subsequent one-on-one training with employees in the field to ensure ongoing compliance in all aspects of agency operations.
- Assist with special compliance/quality educational trainings as requested.
- Analyze reports to spot trends.
- Maintain and apply current knowledge of standards of care in clinical documentation
- Audit clinical charts for “longitudinal” documentation of decline due to terminal diagnosis and provide summary of findings on quality of documentation in “documenting to the terminal diagnosis”
- Responding to requests for clinical records from governmental bodies as the responsible party to respond.
- Monitoring external audit review processes, maintains awareness of compliance issues.
- In conjunction with senior management, responds to administrative inquiries related to compliance issues or audits.
- Must provide initially and update as appropriate all required information for credentialing at area healthcare facilities and hospitals, and maintain good standing with each.
- Maintain a high level of urgency, customer consciousness and service excellence.
- Fulfill all responsibilities related to the success of the strategic plan of the organization, as requested and assigned.
- Participate as an active supporter of the Treasure Coast Hospice compliance program including the emphasis to report, as well as complying with all Federal, State, and Local laws as well as the organization’s compliance program. Serve on the organization’s Compliance Committee quarterly.

Additional Information:
Incumbent may be required to perform emergency duty before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency, crisis situation or disaster (man-made or natural) including evacuation sites. The person in the position will work in a smoke-free location, and is expected to adhere to all smoking restrictions.
