Job Description Hilton Marco Island Resort and Spa is currently seeking a dynamic Director of Human Resources to join the best team on Marco Island!

POSITION PURPOSE:

The Director of Human Resources assists in achieving departmental goals and objectives by assuming responsibility for employment and training of staff in a professional and expedient manner. Ensure that Hilton recruiting standards are followed, and that applicable laws and regulations are adhered to.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Responsible for preparing a list of open positions from staff requisitions, to be posted and sent to recruiting sources. Updates and emails advertisement to local newspaper or job sources. Visit area employment agencies to post positions and secure applicants. Locate new employment agencies to increase the flow of applications to the hotel. Attend local and regional job fairs as necessary. Input all applications into the Human Resources Applicant Database.

Responsible for performing initial screening interview with qualified candidates to determine whether or not the applicant meets the Absolutes of the position for which they are applying. May recommend other position(s) for which applicant is better qualified.

Responsible for processing new team members to include: drug testing, background screening, new hire paperwork (summarized orientation), preparation of personnel record, completion of new hire PAF, entry into the Human Resources Computer System , name tag, and completion of new hire Orientation Checklist.

Responsible for conducting the formal orientation program on an as needed basis, using PowerPoint, other media, and the Orientation checklist to welcome new team members. Ensure Responsible Vendor and Serve-Safe training is completed in a timely manner for all new hires and re-certifications are completed for long-term team members. Set up CPR training for managers on a bi-annual basis or as often as needed.

Work with managers to determine the amount of interns needed. Notify the appropriate agencies of the requirements. Create the offer letter and training plan and forward to appropriate agency. Responsible for coordinating intern’s arrival and hotel booking. Once interns have arrived, responsible for initial orientation and continued monitoring of the program to include proper rotation, trainings, meetings etc.

Assist the Human Resources Director with team member inquiries, as necessary, or in the absence of the Human Resources Director. Assume the duties of the Human Resources Director in his/her absence.

OTHER:

Due to the cyclical nature of the hospitality industry, may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the hotel including weekends and holidays.

SUPPORTIVE FUNCTIONS:

In addition to performance of the essential functions, this position may be required to perform a combination of supportive functions, with the percentage of time performing each function to be solely determined by the Human Resources Director based upon the particular requirements of the hotel.

SPECIFIC JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

The individual must possess the following knowledge skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate the ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.

  • Possess basic knowledge of EEOC and other applicable federal and state employment laws and regulations.
  • Able to work under strict deadlines.
  • Able to read, write, hear, speak and understand the English language to communicate with management and staff--being persuasive, clear and to the point. Written communication skills to be concise, well organized, complete, clear and understandable in order to formulate complex reports and communicate with the public, staff, corporate offices, and general manager.
  • Able to sit and/or stand for long periods of time.
  • Able to use both fine motor skills (using computer keyboard, manipulating switches, etc.) and gross motor skills (climbing stairs, standing for long periods of time, conducting training sessions).
  • Able to bend at waist and knees and reach overhead.
  • Able to grasp and move objects weighing up to 25 lbs.
  • Able to effectively work with team members and applicants, some of whom require a high level of patience, tact and diplomacy to defuse anger and collect accurate information.
  • Able to motivate team members and create an atmosphere conducive to learning.
  • Able to speak and express ideas in a public forum.
  • Possess a positive upbeat demeanor.
  • Possess the ability to remain neutral, even under pressure, in order to gather information and make decisions based on fact, for the benefit of both the hotel and its team members.
  • Able to concentrate in a high volume / high pressure area often under strict time constraints.
  • Possess excellent communications skills – written and oral. Able to communicate thoughts, ideas and actions clearly and in a few words.
  • Able to prioritize and arrange day-to-day tasks, allotting for constant interruptions, to efficiently complete projects.
  • Must have solid organizational skills.
  • Able to climb stairs.

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS

Education:

o High School graduate or equivalent required.

o Four-year college degree in related field preferred.

Experience:

o Three years combined general Human Resources and supervisory experience.

o Prior hotel experience required. Experience with Hilton Hotels preferred.

Licenses or certificates:

o SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR or SPHR certification in Human Resources preferred.

o CPR certification required. First Aid training preferred.

Other:

o Additional language ability preferred.

o Hilton Trainer Certified preferred
