We understand that for our clients, an in-house bookkeeper can cost a pretty penny, and keeping the books themselves eats up their valuable time. At Melby & Associates, we step in so our clients don't have to spend countless hours on accounting chores. We handle the books, payroll, and taxes, providing the detailed financial reports they need to thrive.
We are currently looking for a detail-oriented, client-focused Tax Preparer to join our team and help our clients focus on what they do best: bettering their companies.
The Role
As a Tax Preparer, you will be a vital part of our mission to provide peace of mind to small business owners. You won't just be crunching numbers; you’ll be a trusted advisor ensuring our clients remain compliant while optimizing their financial health.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and file accurate federal and state tax returns for individuals and small businesses.
- Collaborate with our small business accountants to monitor client finances throughout the year.
- Review financial records, such as balance sheets, income statements and documentation of expenditures.
- Identify potential deductions and credits to minimize client tax liability.
- Ability to conduct initial meetings with new clients to discuss services needed and estimate of cost.
- Provide exceptional service by explaining tax laws and filing processes to clients clearly.
What You Bring to the Table
- Experience: Proven track record in tax preparation (individual and/or corporate). Experience with CIRA returns and non-profits a plus.
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of current federal and state tax regulations.
- Skills: Proficiency in tax software and MS Office (Excel is a must). TR- Ultra-Tax a plus.
- Mindset: A "client-first" attitude with a high level of integrity and attention to detail.
- Detail oriented: Need to be detail oriented, highly organized and a good communicator.
- Location: Ability to work from our St. Petersburg, FL office.
