The primary responsibility of the AMZL Dispatcher is to ensure the fleet of drivers departs the station on time, remains safe and efficient on the road, and successfully delivers every package. Performs as the central hub of daily operations acting as a problem-solver, coach, and primary point of contact for drivers throughout their shifts.

General Responsibilities:

  • Morning Load-Out: Coordinate the morning "wave" to ensure all drivers are present, vehicles are assigned, and the team exits the station within the designated time window.
  • Real-Time Tracking: Monitor delivery progress using routing software (Cortex, etc.) to ensure drivers are on pace to finish their routes.
  • Route Optimization: Identify "at-risk" routes and coordinate "rescues" by sending faster drivers to assist those who are behind.
  • Driver Support: Provide immediate assistance for on-road issues, including navigation help, app troubleshooting, and customer delivery challenges.
  • Safety & Compliance: Ensure all drivers are following safety protocols, including seatbelt usage, speed limits, and proper van inspections.
  • End-of-Day Check-in: Conduct "debriefs" with drivers returning to the station to address undelivered packages, vehicle issues, or fuel needs.
  • Minor Fleet Maintenance: Perform basic on-site vehicle troubleshooting and repairs, including replacing bulbs/fuses, clearing door jams, jump-starting batteries, and maintaining fluid levels to minimize van downtime.
  • Reporting: Maintain logs of driver performance, accidents, and attendance for management review.

Qualifications

  • Experience: At least 1 year of experience in logistics, dispatching, or delivery. Prior DSP experience and/or Food Service managerial experience is also a plus.
  • Tech-Savvy: Proficiency with GPS tracking software, scheduling apps, and basic spreadsheet tools (Excel/Google Sheets).
  • Communication: Ability to communicate clearly and professionally under pressure via phone, and text. Must be bilingual (English and Spanish).
  • Critical Thinking: High-level problem-solving skills to manage route delays and vehicle breakdowns on the fly.
  • Mechanical Aptitude: Ability to troubleshoot and resolve minor mechanical or electrical vehicle issues (e.g., fuses, bulbs, battery jumps) without immediate assistance from a mechanic.
  • Availability: Must be willing to work flexible hours, including late evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Work Environment
