The first mate (also known as the chief officer or first officer) is a crucial member of our yacht charter, responsible for overseeing the deck crew and managing the day-to-day operations of the yacht. This includes tasks such as navigation, maintenance of deck equipment, and safety procedures. This person also assists the captain in the overall management of the yacht and its crew.
You must hold a valid STCW (Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping) certificate, which is a set of international standards for seafarers. Additionally, you will need to have completed relevant training and have a certain amount of sea-going experience, including experience working on large vessels, such as superyachts. Some specific certifications for superyacht crew include:
- Chief Mate 3000
- The Chief Mate (Yachts <3000gt) Certificate of Competency (CoC)
- MCA (Maritime and Coastguard Agency) Officer of the Watch (Unlimited)
- Master (code vessels 200gt) OOW (Yachts <500gt)
- Yacht Master Ocean
- RYA Yachtmaster Offshore
- PYA (Professional Yachting Association) Deck Officer
Salary : $200 daily or $4000 monthly plus tips
