Position Overview
The Senior Accountant will play a key role in managing the financial operations of a high-volume marine dealership. This individual will handle full-cycle accounting with a focus on inventory, floorplan financing, and revenue recognition related specifically to boat sales and service operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage all aspects of the general ledger, including journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end close.
- Oversee inventory accounting for new and pre-owned boats, parts, and accessories.
- Handle floorplan reconciliations, interest expense tracking, and related bank reporting.
- Review and record sales transactions, commissions, and financing income with accurate revenue recognition.
- Prepare and file multi-state sales tax reports and ensure compliance with dealership-specific regulations.
- Maintain accurate fixed asset and depreciation schedules.
- Support internal and external audits and assist in financial statement preparation.
- Partner with operations and sales management to ensure financial accuracy across departments.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with direct experience in boat/marine dealership accounting.
- Proficiency in accounting systems such as QuickBooks, Sage, or dealership-specific ERP software (DealerSocket, Lightspeed, or similar).
- Strong understanding of inventory, floorplan, and revenue recognition principles.
- Advanced Excel skills and high attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-driven environment.
