We are seeking multiple reliable and motivated Field Assistants for a land surveying and engineering company. This is an entry-level position ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on work, learning new skills, and working outdoors. The Field Assistant will support a crew chief on daily projects involving underground utility locating, soft digging, and job site setup.

This role offers exposure to a specialized and essential industry, with opportunities for growth and on-the-job training for those who are dependable and eager to learn. Candidates with prior experience may have opportunities to train directly with a Senior Crew Chief or Project Coordinator, learning company-specific systems and standards.

Daily Responsibilities:

At the Office:

  • Assist with loading and stocking trucks with daily field supplies (e.g., water, ice, paint, flags, tools, equipment)

  • Charge batteries and prepare tools such as jackhammers, tampers, asphalt tools, etc.

  • Participate in team briefing and project prep

  • Travel with crew to job sites (commute may be 1.5 to 2 hours)

On-Site – Utility Locating Projects:

  • Identify visual utility markers (fire hydrants, manholes, clean-out caps, irrigation boxes, etc.)

  • Assist in locating utilities using rods, paint, pin flags, and digging verification holes

  • Work with ground penetrating radar (GPR) crews to confirm locations

On-Site – Soft Dig Projects:

  • Help with job site setup: safety cones, signage, and equipment placement

  • Assist in breaking/removing surface material (asphalt, concrete)

  • Use vacuum excavation equipment to expose underground utilities

  • Aid in utility data collection, backfilling holes, and completing surface restoration

Preferred Experience (Not Required but a Plus):

  • Utility locating

  • Heavy equipment operation

  • Driving and operating large trucks or vacuum excavation equipment

What We’re Looking For:

  • Positive attitude and strong work ethic

  • Willingness to learn and follow direction

  • Comfortable working outdoors in all weather, especially summer heat

  • Physically able to perform manual labor and dig in roadways

  • Dependable and punctual

  • Team player who takes pride in quality work

Why Join Us?

  • Hands-on training and mentorship from industry professionals

  • Opportunity to grow into advanced roles (equipment operator, crew chief, coordinator)

  • Work with a close-knit team in a growing and essential field

  • Every day is different—varied locations and project types

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7 AM - 5 PM
