We are seeking multiple reliable and motivated Field Assistants for a land surveying and engineering company. This is an entry-level position ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on work, learning new skills, and working outdoors. The Field Assistant will support a crew chief on daily projects involving underground utility locating, soft digging, and job site setup.
This role offers exposure to a specialized and essential industry, with opportunities for growth and on-the-job training for those who are dependable and eager to learn. Candidates with prior experience may have opportunities to train directly with a Senior Crew Chief or Project Coordinator, learning company-specific systems and standards.
Daily Responsibilities:
At the Office:

Assist with loading and stocking trucks with daily field supplies (e.g., water, ice, paint, flags, tools, equipment)

Charge batteries and prepare tools such as jackhammers, tampers, asphalt tools, etc.

Participate in team briefing and project prep

Travel with crew to job sites (commute may be 1.5 to 2 hours)
On-Site – Utility Locating Projects:

Identify visual utility markers (fire hydrants, manholes, clean-out caps, irrigation boxes, etc.)

Assist in locating utilities using rods, paint, pin flags, and digging verification holes

Work with ground penetrating radar (GPR) crews to confirm locations
On-Site – Soft Dig Projects:

Help with job site setup: safety cones, signage, and equipment placement

Assist in breaking/removing surface material (asphalt, concrete)

Use vacuum excavation equipment to expose underground utilities

Aid in utility data collection, backfilling holes, and completing surface restoration
Preferred Experience (Not Required but a Plus):

Utility locating

Heavy equipment operation

Driving and operating large trucks or vacuum excavation equipment
