About the VP, Finance Position:

Agency 21 (a21) is seeking a VP of Finance to play a critical role in our rapidly growing company. We are looking for a leader with strong entrepreneurial experience and a start-up mindset, who thrives in fast-paced, scaling environments. As VP of Finance, you will be a participatory leader, working closely with the CEO and COO to guide the finance department and the financial decisions of the company. As the VP of Finance, you will be responsible for all aspects of financial leadership, including reporting, financial controls, accounting, and budgeting, while helping to shape strategy and support sustainable growth.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Leads the accounting department, including invoicing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and general accounting.
  • Leads thoughtful implementation of procedures and systems to maximize efficiency and ensure compliant practices are maintained throughout the organization.
  • Analyzes the business regularly providing recommendations on cost and revenue improvements, areas for improved margin, and greater efficiency.
  • Measures and reports profitability and variances for each business unit.
  • Monitors and optimizes cash flow to ensure liquidity, identifying and mitigating financial risks.
  • Drives financial analysis and visibility for each business unit (Culinary, Art Fairs, Fabrication and Brand Experience, and Event Production) and the departments that support those business units.
  • Prepares reports outlining financial position in areas of income, expense, and earnings based on past, present, and future operations.
  • Prepares reports and executive summaries for quarterly board meetings and monthly board calls.
  • Produces and presents all fiscal management tools and reports at regularly and ad hoc scheduled meetings.
  • Directs preparation of annual budgets and financial forecasts, Profit and Loss Statements, variance reports, and 18-month cash flow statement alongside Senior Leadership Team.
  • Oversees state governmental reporting and handles all inquiries from government agencies, including Internal Revenue Service.
  • Advises management on desirable operational adjustments due to business levels and tax revisions.
  • Leads, hires, trains, and develops the accounting team while fostering a culture of accountability


Skills + Qualifications Needed:

  • 10+ years of accounting experience and leading a team
  • Thorough knowledge of GAAP and IFRS and the ability to apply that knowledge to the Company’s financial reporting requirements
  • Proven track record building, scaling and leading accounting teams, processes, and systems
  • Working knowledge of all facets of the general ledger including monthly/year-end close process
  • Experience building complete year-end financial reporting package (balance sheet, statement of operations, statement of cash flow, inclusive of required footnote disclosures.)
  • Ability to give and receive positive and constructive feedback
  • Proven adaptability in a fast-paced, high-growth environment
  • Ability to balance working at a strategic level while remaining hands on with the team
  • Merger and acquisition experience a plus
  • Banking and investor experience a plus
  • Sage Intacct accounting system experience a plus
  • Entrepreneurial and start-up experience with the ability to operate strategically while rolling up your sleeves in a rapidly scaling business
