MJR Custom Homes is a small, family-owned custom home builder dedicated to creating high-quality, unique homes for our clients. We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Bookkeeper to join our team and manage our day-to-day financial operations.

Job Summary:

The Bookkeeper will be a key member of our team, responsible for the full-cycle accounting functions of the company. This role requires a high degree of accuracy, proficiency in QuickBooks Online, and a strong understanding of accounting principles. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter who can manage multiple tasks and contribute to the smooth financial operations of our business.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Accounts Payable:

    • Manage and process payments to subcontractors and vendors in a timely and accurate manner.

    • Reconcile subcontractor invoices and payment applications.

    • Track and maintain lien waivers.

  • Accounts Receivable:

    • Generate and issue client invoices (billings) based on project progress and contract terms.

    • Monitor and follow up on outstanding invoices to ensure timely collection.

  • Bookkeeping and Reconciliation:

    • Perform regular bank and credit card reconciliations.

    • Maintain the general ledger and ensure all financial transactions are accurately recorded.

    • Assist with month-end and year-end close processes.

  • Reporting and Analysis:

    • Generate and analyze various financial reports, including job cost reports, profit and loss statements, and balance sheets.

    • Provide financial insights to management to aid in decision-making.

  • Insurance and Compliance:

    • Manage and track general liability and workers' compensation coverage for all subcontractors.

    • Ensure all subcontractors have the necessary and up-to-date insurance certificates.

    • Coordinate and run the yearly audit for general liability and workers' compensation insurance.

  • General Duties:

    • Assist with administrative tasks as needed.

    • Maintain organized and accessible financial records.

    • Adhere to all company policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in an accounting or bookkeeping role, preferably within the construction or real estate industry.

  • Expert-level proficiency in QuickBooks Online is a must.

  • Solid understanding of accounting principles and practices.

  • Experience with job costing is highly desirable.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.

  • Proficient in Google drive (Docs, Sheets, etc)

Education:

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred. Would also accept work related experience with no degree if its been more than 5 years in the field of accounting.
