The Controller is responsible for managing and processing the company’s Real Estate accounting operations, ensuring the integrity and accuracy of financial reporting. This role requires a deep understanding of accrual-based accounting principles and the ability to produce timely financial statements and other key financial data. The ideal candidate is analytical, detail-oriented, and committed to maintaining the highest standards of financial accuracy and compliance.
Requirements:
Essential Job Duties
- Oversee day-to-day accounting activities, ensuring compliance with GAAP and internal policies.
- Prepare, analyze and interpret financial statements, cash flow reports, budgets, and forecasts to provide actionable insights and support strategic business decision-making
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts
- Generate and review accrual journal entries and ensure timely recognition of revenues and expenses
- Oversee invoicing process to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and alignment with contractual terms
- Lead the month-end and year-end close processes
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and external auditors as needed
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Required Skills and Abilities
- Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and internal controls
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (e.g., VLOOKUP, PivotTables, etc.)
- Experience with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage or similar)
- Demonstrated ability to produce accurate financial reports under tight deadlines
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting required
- Experience in Real Estate accounting required
- 5 years of experience in accounting; prior experience in a Controller or similar role required
Physical Requirements
- Ability to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects, maintaining a stationary position most of the time.
- Ability to use hands and fingers to operate general office equipment
- Visual acuity to read and analyze data on computer screens and printed reports.
- Ability to pass pre-employment background check and drug screen.
