Job Title: Volunteer Manager

Job Type: Full-Time

Pay: $55k - $60k salary

Position Summary:
The Volunteer and Special Events Manager is responsible for recruiting, training, scheduling, supervising, and recognizing adult, teen, and group volunteers, as well as interns. This role also supports the Development team by identifying volunteers for special events. The Manager strengthens the volunteer base to ensure the efficient operation of programs and events.

Primary Responsibilities – Volunteer Program:

  • Develop, update, and implement a recruitment plan to attract and retain diverse volunteers.

  • Recruit, interview, orient, train, and schedule volunteers and service project groups.

  • Conduct background checks and orientations for new volunteers and interns.

  • Implement volunteer retention and recognition strategies.

  • Represent the organization at volunteer fairs and related fundraising activities.

  • Build and maintain community relationships with educational and service organizations.

  • Assign volunteer tasks and maintenance duties based on operational needs.

  • Develop yearly recognition and motivation programs for volunteers.

  • Attend and participate in monthly staff meetings.

  • Prepare volunteer reports for leadership as needed.

  • Manage content and preparation of quarterly newsletters and annual reports for volunteers.

  • Assist in securing in-kind donations for programs.

  • Track volunteer hours, committee participation, and event involvement in databases.

  • Supervise and assess volunteer performance, including meal volunteers.

  • Develop promotional materials for the volunteer program and assist with articles, photos, and communications.

  • Oversee interns assigned to various departments.

  • Draft and send personalized thank-you communications.

  • Maintain organized and secure volunteer paperwork and applications.

  • Coordinate volunteer participation in fundraising events.

Primary Responsibilities – Special Events:

  • Support leadership in executing logistics for signature events.

  • Recruit and assign volunteers for events, providing necessary orientation and guidance.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Public Relations, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience coordinating volunteers or special events.

  • Proven leadership experience in similar roles.

  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

  • Problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

  • Customer-service oriented and able to work collaboratively with diverse personalities.

  • Flexible, diplomatic, trustworthy, and self-motivated.

  • Ability to function independently and as part of a team.

Working Conditions:

  • Travel to local meetings as needed (expenses provided).

  • Must have reliable transportation.

  • Frequent use of a computer.

  • Physical requirements include sitting, bending, reaching, walking, and occasional heavy lifting.

Schedule:

  • Monday – Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM (40 hours/week, exempt)

  • Flexible schedule with occasional weekend hours for events or presentations
