Job Description
Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Insurance Accountant with strong STAT and GAAP accounting expertise and direct experience in the Accident & Health (A&H) insurance industry. This role is responsible for preparing financial statements, completing NAIC regulatory filings, supporting month-end closing, and performing insurance-specific financial analysis.
This is a hands-on, high-impact position within a regulated insurance environment.

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8AM-5PM
Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting & Close
- Record earned, assumed, and ceded premium activity accurately and timely.
- Perform detailed reconciliations for cash, intercompany, and other key accounts.
- Lead or support STAT and GAAP month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.
- Prepare and analyze financial statements, including balance sheet, income statement, and supporting schedules.
Regulatory Reporting
- Complete multi-state premium tax calculations and filings.
- Ensure compliance with Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP) and GAAP.
- Prepare NAIC quarterly and annual filings (Orange/Yellow/Blue Book exposure preferred)
Insurance-Specific Accounting
- Support pricing and profitability analysis through pro formas and financial modeling.
- Calculate and analyze IBNR, loss ratios, persistency/attrition, and other A&H insurance metrics.
- Prepare reinsurance settlement statements and support reinsurance accounting processes.
Analysis & Process Improvement
- Perform variance, ratio, and trend analyses, present findings to management.
- Identify opportunities to streamline processes and enhance internal controls.
- Assist with system enhancements and implementation of accounting tools.
Qualifications/Must Haves:
- 2+ years in insurance accounting.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- 4+ years of accounting experience.
- 2+ years of STAT accounting experience.
- 4+ years of GAAP accounting experience.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting (required)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Direct experience in Accident & Health (A&H) insurance.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a regulated environment.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs)
- Self-directed, organized, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong understanding of insurance financial concepts: IBNR, loss ratios, earned premium, assumed/ceded premium.
- Experience preparing NAIC filings and working within regulated insurance environments.
- Experience with insurance financial systems (e.g., Oasis, Clearwater Analytics, premium tax software) is a strong plus.
Preferred Skills:
- Familiarity with QuickBooks or similar accounting systems.
- Insurance industry designations (e.g., LOMA) are a plus.
- Experience in mid-sized or established insurance carriers, MGAs, or TPAs.
