As a Chaplain, you will offer presence, reflection, and compassionate support to patients and families navigating serious illness and end of life. This role is well suited for chaplains with Clinical Pastoral Education, who value inclusive, non-denominational support grounded in listening and connection. Working alongside an interdisciplinary team, you will help create space for meaning, comfort, and dignity for individuals of all beliefs and life experiences.
Overview
The Chaplain provides spiritual support to patients, families, and the interdisciplinary team in accordance with the hospice philosophy and Medicare Conditions of Participation. This role addresses spiritual, religious, and existential concerns of patients and caregivers, facilitating peace, connection, and dignity throughout the end-of-life process. The Chaplain conducts spiritual assessments, supports care planning, offers counseling, and coordinates rituals or sacraments as requested by the patient or family.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct spiritual assessments and develop individualized spiritual care plans for patients and families.
- Provide ongoing spiritual and emotional support in alignment with patient/family beliefs, traditions, and preferences.
- Support patients and families of all faiths or belief systems, including those who are non-religious or secular.
- Offer prayer, sacraments, rituals, or spiritual rites as appropriate and in accordance with patient/family wishes.
- Participate in interdisciplinary group (IDG) meetings and contribute to holistic care planning.
- Document spiritual care services, assessments, and updates to care plans in the EMR system.
- Assist with advance care planning, legacy work, or life review at the request of the patient/family.
- Coordinate with community clergy or spiritual leaders as requested to ensure continuity and cultural relevance of care.
- Assist with bereavement care and family support before and after death, including memorial services and grief follow-up.
- Educate team members on cultural, spiritual, and ethical issues affecting patient care.
- Maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries while fostering trust and compassion.
- Remain current on best practices and spiritual care competencies in hospice and palliative care.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Master's degree in divinity, theology, pastoral counseling, or a related field from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of one (1) unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) required; two (2) units or board certification preferred.
- Ordination, commissioning, or endorsement by a recognized faith group or religious body.
- Experience providing spiritual care in a hospice, hospital, or community health setting preferred.
- Ability to serve diverse populations with respect to faith, culture, identity, and beliefs.
- Understanding of grief and bereavement processes; ability to support families and team members.
- Knowledge of Medicare hospice regulations and Conditions of Participation related to spiritual care.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to make patient visits as required.
- Excellent interpersonal, documentation, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while engaging collaboratively with interdisciplinary team members.
- Proficiency in using EMR systems and virtual communication tools.

Compensation for this position is shown below and reflects the expected pay range for the role. Final compensation may vary based on experience, licensure, and location. Arc Hospice is committed to transparency and equity in all compensation practices.
