Vistra Communications, an award-winning marketing, communications and consulting agency, is seeking an experienced marketing or public relations professional to serve as Director of Communications. The Director of Communications will lead strategic communications efforts for a diverse portfolio of corporate, nonprofit and government clients. Reporting to the VP of Marketing and Communications, this role is responsible for developing and executing high-impact communications strategies that build brands, influence stakeholders and deliver measurable results.
The ideal candidate is a proactive leader with deep experience in media relations, campaign strategy, crisis communications, stakeholder engagement and team management. This position requires someone who thrives in a fast-paced, client-focused environment and can confidently lead complex projects while mentoring high-performing teams. Agency experience i is desired.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Communication Planning
- Leads, plans and manages the development and execution of integrated communications initiatives and campaigns
- Works with clients to define and implement strategic communications plans including public relations, digital content and marketing alignment
- Manages and grows client accounts and projects by delivering results, identifying new opportunities and contributing to business development efforts
- Supervises and actively participates in the development of written content, including press materials, campaign messaging, social media content, collateral, and proposals.
- Ensures alignment between public relations efforts and broader marketing or digital campaigns
Media Relations
- Provides proactive media relations leadership and support including the development of messaging, press materials, media outreach and engagement as well as community engagement
- Maintains strong relationships with local, regional and national media
- Customizes and leads executive media training sessions to prepare clients for press and public appearances.
- Represents clients in crisis response and reputation management incidents
Team Leadership & Project Management
- Leads and manages communications team members, providing direction, coaching, training and support
- Manages project timelines, deliverables, budgets and success measurement
Strategic Growth and Relationship Development
- Cultivates and maintains relationships with partners, clients and stakeholders to expand the organization's reach and impact Collaborates with company leadership to identify and pursue strategic opportunities that align with organizational goals Collaborates with internal teams to develop proposals and integrated solutions for prospective and existing clients
- Represents the organization at industry events, conferences and networking opportunities to enhance visibility and reputation
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, marketing, advertising or a related field
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in public relations, media relations and strategic communications, preferably in an agency setting
- Demonstrated success managing integrated communications campaigns and leading client relationships
- Experience working with corporate and nonprofit clients including large brands
- Strong writing, editing and presentation skills •Excellent planning, organizational and problem-solving skills
- Proven ability to lead and manage teams, projects and client expectations
- Client service mindset and ability to work with stakeholders at all levels
- Experience managing multiple fast-paced projects and competing deadlines
- Minimum 3 years of experience in a supervisory role
- Some travel may be required
