Job Description

The Assistant Controller is an important member of the Finance team and oversees the day-to-day functions of the Accounting department. This role will partner with the VP Finance and CFO to evaluate opportunities for automation to enhance the efficiency of the accounting team. This position reports directly to the VP Finance. (This is meant to be a guide. Duties may vary dependent upon management.)

Essential Position Functions:

  • Oversee daily operations of general ledger accounting to ensure accurate and timely financial reports.
  • Own monthly close processes across multiple lines of business and multiple ERP systems.
  • Ensure all financial statements are issued timely and in accordance with GAAP. Prepare/review journal entries and account reconciliations.
  • Supervise and mentor staff to establish best-in-class general ledger accounting processes. Evaluate opportunities for automation to enhance the efficiency of the accounting team.
  • Provide hands-on leadership of day-to-day general ledger accounting responsibilities across multiple lines of business, to include producing periodic and timely financial reports, maintenance of adequate accounting records, establishing and maintaining a comprehensive set of internal controls, enhancing the accuracy of the company's reported financial results, and ensuring reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles
  • Develop, document and enforce accounting policies and procedures to ensure consistency and standardization across multiple lines of business.
  • Collaborate with stakeholder teams to develop necessary analysis and documentation in a cooperative way, communicating effectively and efficiently with managerial and executive teams. Build and strengthen relationships with other departments, including sales, operations, customer service, and IT.
  • Support VP Finance in coordinating external audits and ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements.
  • Support VP Finance in assessing implications of new accounting pronouncements to the Company and help lead implementation of new pronouncements.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Undergraduate Degree in Accounting or equivalent; Masters degree in Finance or Accounting and/or CPA certification is a plus.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years’ relevant experience in public accounting or in private industry working in a similar capacity; Big 4 audit experience is a plus.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively interface with customers at all levels, both internally and externally.
  • Experienced and comfortable with change management and be able to adapt to changes in responsibilities.
  • Well organized and self-directed with excellent organizational, analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be able to efficiently use a Windows-based computer with advanced Excel skills.
  • Demonstrated abilities using ERP systems to provide and obtain financial and operational information.
  • Strong leadership and team management abilities.
  • Organized and self-directed team member with excellent communication skills.
  • Must have excellent knowledge of GAAP.
  • Must be able to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Ability to independently complete multiple time-sensitive tasks and meet established deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be able to read and communicate in English for safe and effective performance of the job and business operations.
  • Must be able to work alone and with a team.
  • Must be able to pass a drug screen and criminal background check.
