We are seeking an Intern, Actuarial to join our team at Independent Living Systems (ILS). About the Role:

The Intern, Actuarial position offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the health care and social assistance industry by supporting actuarial analyses and projects. This role is designed to provide exposure to the application of mathematical and statistical methods to assess risk and financial implications related to health care programs and insurance products. The intern will collaborate with experienced actuaries to analyze data, develop models, and contribute to forecasting and pricing strategies that impact organizational decision-making. Through this internship, the candidate will develop a foundational understanding of actuarial principles within a real-world context, enhancing their technical and professional skills. Ultimately, the role aims to prepare the intern for a future career in actuarial science by providing meaningful work experience and mentorship in a dynamic and impactful sector.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, or a related quantitative field.
  • Strong foundation in mathematics, probability, and statistics.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with statistical software or programming languages such as R, Python, or SAS.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Completion of one or more actuarial exams from recognized actuarial societies (e.g., SOA or CAS).
  • Experience with health care data or familiarity with health insurance concepts.
  • Knowledge of database querying languages such as SQL.
  • Prior internship or project experience in an actuarial or analytical role.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in collecting, organizing, and analyzing health care data to support actuarial studies and reports.
  • Contribute to the development and validation of actuarial models used for pricing, reserving, and forecasting.
  • Support the preparation of presentations and documentation for internal teams and regulatory submissions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including underwriting, finance, and data analytics to gather relevant information and insights.
  • Perform quality checks on data and calculations to ensure accuracy and compliance with industry standards.
