Position Summary

The Cafeteria Attendant plays an essential role in delivering a high-quality, welcoming, and efficient dining experience for Palm House staff and management. This position is responsible for preparing and serving light breakfasts and lunches, maintaining cleanliness and organization of the staff dining area, ensuring proper food handling and safety standards, and providing friendly, professional service to all team members.


The ideal candidate is a culinary professional with strong organizational skills, a passion for hospitality, and the ability to work independently while maintaining the high service standards of Palm House.


Key Responsibilities

Daily Food Preparation & Service

  • Prepare and serve daily breakfast offerings (e.g., pastries, fruit, yogurt, eggs, coffee, and light hot items).
  • Prepare, cook, and present lunch menus consisting of nutritious and well-balanced meals for staff (e.g., sandwiches, salads, soups, and hot entrees).
  • Ensure all food is cooked and stored according to recipe specifications and safety guidelines.
  • Maintain proper portion control and consistency in presentation.
  • Set up and replenish buffet stations or grab-and-go options throughout meal periods.
  • Rotate menus weekly or bi-weekly to maintain variety and freshness.

Food Safety & Sanitation

  • Comply with all health, safety, and sanitation standards in food handling, storage, and preparation.
  • Maintain clean and organized kitchen, prep, and service areas at all times.
  • Conduct daily cleaning of equipment, utensils, and workstations before closing.
  • Monitor food and ingredient expiration dates, label and store items properly.
  • Report any maintenance or equipment issues promptly to management.
  • Maintain required temperature logs for food items, coolers, and warmers.

Inventory & Ordering

  • Track daily usage and assist in maintaining inventory levels for ingredients, beverages, and supplies.
  • Communicate low stock or supply needs to the Executive Chef or F&B Manager.
  • Assist in receiving and inspecting deliveries to ensure quality and accuracy.
  • Minimize waste and follow cost-control procedures in line with Palm House sustainability and efficiency goals.

Guest (Staff) Relations & Service Standards

  • Provide exceptional, friendly, and professional service to all Palm House staff members dining in the cafeteria.
  • Anticipate staff needs during meal times and accommodate dietary restrictions when possible.
  • Maintain a clean, inviting, and organized dining area before, during, and after service.
  • Foster a positive dining environment that reflects the same level of care and hospitality extended to Palm House guests.
  • Take initiative in creating a welcoming and community-focused atmosphere.

Administrative & Support Duties

  • Assist in menu planning in collaboration with the Executive Chef to ensure balanced and appealing meal options.
  • Document and report daily meal counts and food waste metrics.
  • Support food preparation for special staff events, trainings, or meetings as requested.
  • Adhere to uniform and grooming standards that reflect Palm House professionalism.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; culinary training preferred.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in food service, cafeteria operations, or as a line cook in a hotel, resort, or corporate dining environment.
  • Proven experience managing multiple tasks in a fast-paced, service-oriented setting.
  • ServSafe or equivalent Food Handler Certification preferred.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong culinary and food preparation skills across a range of cuisines.
  • Excellent organization, time management, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; positive, service-driven attitude.
  • Flexibility to adapt menus or accommodate dietary requests.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for long periods.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent standing, walking, lifting, and bending throughout the day.
  • Ability to safely operate kitchen equipment and tools.
  • Work in hot, cold, and humid environments typical of a professional kitchen.
  • Maintain focus and stamina during busy service hours.
