Job Description

About Carnahan Group

Carnahan Group, a VMG Health company, is a leading strategic healthcare consulting firm that has spent over two decades helping hospitals and health systems navigate the complex intersection of finance and regulation. We are known for our innovative approach to Fair Market Value (FMV) assessments and our proprietary technology platforms, like FMVMDTM, which have revolutionized how physician compensation is analyzed.

Joining our team means stepping into a high-stakes environment where your financial expertise directly impacts the compliance and operational integrity of some of the nation’s largest healthcare providers. Since our acquisition by VMG Health, we offer the boutique, hands-on culture of Carnahan Group backed by the industry-leading resources of a national powerhouse.

Job Summary

We are looking for a detail-oriented Healthcare Valuation Analyst to join our consulting team. In this role, you won't just be "crunching numbers"—you will be interpreting the financial stories behind medical practices, hospital contracts, and executive compensation packages. Your primary goal is to determine the Fair Market Value (FMV) and Commercial Reasonableness of various healthcare arrangements.

This position requires a unique blend of financial modeling skills and an understanding of healthcare law. You will work closely with senior consultants to produce defensible reports that protect our clients from regulatory risks while ensuring they remain competitive in the talent market.

Core Responsibilities

  • Financial Modeling & Analysis: Build and maintain complex financial models to value physician clinical services, call coverage, medical directorships, and executive management agreements.
  • Market Research: Conduct deep-dive research into industry benchmarks (using MGMA, SullivanCotter, and Merritt Hawkins data) to compare compensation trends across different medical specialties and geographic regions.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all valuation reports strictly adhere to federal regulations, specifically the Stark Law and the Anti-Kickback Statute, to protect clients from legal scrutiny.
  • Report Writing: Synthesize complex financial data into clear, narrative-driven reports for C-suite executives and legal counsel. You must be able to explain the "why" behind the numbers.
  • Data Integrity: Review physician productivity metrics (wRVUs, collections, and billings) to ensure the data used in our valuations is accurate and reflective of actual performance.
  • Collaboration: Partner with internal technology teams to provide feedback on our proprietary FMV tools and help refine our automated valuation processes.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or Healthcare Administration is required. An MBA or MHA is a significant plus.
  • Experience: 1–3 years of experience in financial analysis, valuation, or healthcare consulting. We are open to high-performing recent graduates who have completed relevant internships.
  • Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel is non-negotiable (you should be comfortable with VLOOKUPs, Pivot Tables, and complex nested formulas).
  • Analytical Mindset: The ability to look at a spreadsheet and identify anomalies or trends that others might miss.
  • Communication: Strong technical writing skills. You need to be able to communicate financial concepts to people who may not have a finance background.
  • Certification (Preferred): Progress toward or interest in obtaining a professional designation such as a Certified Valuation Analyst (CVA) or Accredited in Business Valuation (ABV).
