Position Summary

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Tampa Bay is seeking a strategic, creative, and mission-driven marketing leader to shape the voice of our agency. This role will lead all marketing, communications, and public relations initiatives to elevate our brand, amplify our impact, and foster deep engagement with our community.

As the Sr. Director of Marketing & Communications, you’ll serve as a key member of the senior leadership team, working cross-functionally with Development, Programs, Partnerships, and Finance to drive awareness, inspire action, and ensure message consistency across all touchpoints. You’ll also serve as our primary liaison to the National Big Brothers Big Sisters Marketing team and collaborate to adapt and extend national campaigns for local relevance.

This role is ideal for a hands-on leader who’s passionate about storytelling, community engagement, and building a culture of mentorship. You’ll inherit a strong foundation and collaborate closely with trusted partners, with the long-term goal of growing in-house capacity while leveraging select external support as needed.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Messaging

  • Own the Big Brothers Big Sisters Tampa Bay brand voice and narrative across all audiences and channels.
  • Develop and implement a strategic marketing and communications plan aligned with organizational priorities.
  • Serve as the senior communications advisor to the CEO and senior leadership team.
  • Act as the bridge to the National Big Brothers Big Sister Marketing team, ensuring consistency and adaptation of national initiatives.

Integrated Marketing & Communications

  • Lead all internal and external communications including donor and volunteer newsletters, events, and annual reports.
  • Develop and execute multi-channel campaigns that drive donor engagement, volunteer recruitment, and community awareness.
  • Oversee public relations, media outreach, and content development for key initiatives like National Mentoring Month and year-end giving.
  • Create culturally competent, inclusive messaging that reflects and resonates with our diverse community.
  • Serve as trusted partner and leader on any Crisis Communication.

Digital & Social Media

  • Manage website content strategy, functionality, and updates in partnership with internal/external resources as needed.
  • Oversee social media strategy and execution, ensuring content is timely, relevant, and on-brand.
  • Track engagement metrics and optimize content based on data insights.

Collaboration & Cross-Functional Alignment

  • Partner with Development to craft compelling fundraising campaigns and donor communications, rooted in Community-Centric Fundraising principles.
  • Collaborate with Programs and Partnerships to support match recruitment, retention, and experience via consistent messaging and materials.
  • Support Finance and HR on key communications including reporting, internal messaging, and board presentations.
  • Facilitate alignment across departments on messaging priorities, storytelling opportunities, and marketing needs.

Storytelling & Voice of the Community

  • Lead the collection and curation of stories that elevate the voices of Bigs, Littles, families, and alumni.
  • Incorporate participant and youth perspectives into marketing strategy, content, and campaigns.
  • Uphold and evolve the agency’s style, language, and visual identity guides.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in marketing, communications, or public affairs (nonprofit, education, or mission-driven organization experience strongly preferred).
  • 3+ years of experience in a leadership role managing teams, projects, or cross-functional collaboration.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and visual storytelling skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build integrated marketing strategies and campaigns.
  • Deep understanding of digital marketing, media relations, and brand development.
  • Passion for equity, community impact, and youth empowerment.
  • Proficiency in project management tools and platforms like Canva, WordPress, Give Effects, Mailchimp, or related tools is a plus.
  • Experience managing agency or freelance partners preferred.
  • Spanish or bilingual fluency is a plus but not required.
