Job DescriptionPosition Overview:FrankCrum Staffing is searching for an experienced Operations Manager on behalf of a confidential, well-established natural gas and propane distribution and piping services organization. This senior-level role is responsible not only for overseeing day-to-day operations, but also for leading and actively selling natural gas and propane services to both residential and commercial customers. This position requires a hands-on operator with deep knowledge of natural gas and propane systems who can balance operational leadership with consultative sales, client relationship management, and revenue growth across residential and commercial markets. The Operations Manager will serve as both an internal leader and an external-facing representative, driving safety, profitability, service quality, and long-term client partnerships.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operations & Business Leadership Oversee all operational activities related to natural gas and propane distribution, piping installation, maintenance, and service across residential and commercial environments.
- Ensure projects and service work are completed safely, on time, and within budget while meeting all regulatory and quality standards for gas and propane operations.
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve operational processes to support scalable growth in residential and commercial natural gas and propane services.
- Manage operational budgets, cost controls, forecasting, and key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Partner with ownership and executive leadership to align operations with strategic growth goals and market expansion initiatives.
- Gas Sales & Revenue Generation (Residential & Commercial Focus) Actively sell natural gas and propane services to residential and commercial customers, including new installations, service agreements, system conversions, upgrades, bulk supply coordination, and ongoing maintenance contracts.
- Prospect and develop new residential neighborhoods, builders, contractors, developers, and commercial/industrial accounts.
- Lead consultative sales discussions to assess customer energy needs, recommend natural gas and/or propane solutions, and close new business.
- Build, manage, and grow a personal book of residential and commercial natural gas and propane customers.
- Develop pricing strategies, proposals, and contracts aligned with market conditions, fuel sourcing considerations, and operational capabilities.
- Support sales forecasting, pipeline development, and revenue growth planning.
- Represent the client organization in customer meetings, site visits, and industry-related events.
- Client & Relationship Management Act as the primary point of contact for key residential and commercial natural gas and propane customers.
- Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction through proactive communication, safe service execution, and timely issue resolution.
- Manage escalations related to gas or propane services, safety concerns, supply issues, or customer complaints with professionalism and urgency.
- Develop long-term, trusted relationships with homeowners, builders, property managers, business owners, and commercial decision-makers.
- Leverage customer feedback to enhance service offerings and identify additional natural gas and propane sales opportunities.
- Team Leadership & Development Lead, mentor, and develop supervisors, field technicians, drivers (if applicable), and operational staff supporting natural gas and propane services.
- Foster a culture of safety, accountability, customer service, and sales-minded operations specific to gas and propane environments.
- Support hiring, onboarding, training, and performance management initiatives.
- Ensure workforces are properly staffed, trained, and equipped to safely support residential and commercial natural gas and propane customers.
- Industry Knowledge & Compliance Maintain expert-level knowledge of natural gas and propane systems, gas piping codes, installation practices, maintenance standards, and service operations.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, DOT, NFPA (as applicable), local utility requirements, and applicable state and municipal regulations.
- Implement and enforce safety programs, risk mitigation strategies, and quality control measures specific to natural gas and propane services.
- Stay current on regulatory changes, fuel market dynamics, and best practices impacting residential and commercial gas operations.
Qualifications & Experience:
- 7+ years of progressive experience in operations management within natural gas, propane, piping, utilities, or related energy services environments.
- Direct experience selling natural gas and/or propane services to residential and commercial customers.
- Strong understanding of natural gas and propane system operations, field services, safety standards, and regulatory compliance.
- Proven ability to manage teams, budgets, and operational performance while driving revenue growth.
- Client-facing experience involving pricing, contract negotiation, and service delivery.
- Financial acumen with the ability to manage margins, costs, and overall operational performance.
