Overview
Talento has partnered with a leading CPG company to identify a Staff Product Designer for a rapidly growing division focused on mass-market board and card games. We are looking for a passionate designer who can translate licensed entertainment brands into engaging, intuitive, and authentic gameplay experiences. This role is ideal for someone who thrives at the intersection of creativity and analytics — designing systems that encourage repeat play, social interaction, and mass-market appeal.
Responsibilities
- Drive creation and development of original game concepts from ideation through production.
- Design and refine mechanics, turn structures, and components to deliver intuitive, emotionally rewarding, and highly replayable experiences.
- Apply probability modeling and statistical analysis to balance gameplay systems, ensuring tension, fairness, and excitement across player counts and game states.
- Tune expected values and variance to optimize risk/reward systems that scale dynamically over turns and sessions.
- Rapidly prototype (lo-fi and digital) to validate clarity, fun, and player engagement, gathering data and feedback from diverse playtest groups.
- Collaborate with senior designers and cross-functional partners to develop innovative mechanics, components, and systems.
- Adapt gameplay mechanics to licensed entertainment IP while preserving authenticity.
- Contribute to rulebooks and player instructions to ensure seamless onboarding.
Qualifications
- 3–5+ years of experience designing published board or card games.
- Proven work on full game systems or major components within a shipped title.
- Familiarity with probability modeling, EV balancing, and bell curve tuning (Excel or other tools).
- Experience adapting mechanics to licensed entertainment IP.
- Hands-on involvement in live playtests with demonstrated ability to iterate based on player feedback.
- Portfolio including authored rules, systems, or instructions.
- Knowledge of the modern tabletop landscape and player behavior trends.
- Strong collaboration skills and solutions-focused mindset.
Bonus Qualifications:
- Multi-lingual (French or Spanish).
- Background in math, statistics, or game theory.
- Ability to build spreadsheets or simulations to model balance, draw rates, or strategy layers.
- Familiarity with manufacturing constraints and component cost considerations.
Pay Rate: $41.55/hr - $51/hr (DOE)
