Cummins | Cederberg is seeking an Assistant Controller to join our team in Coral Gables. The ideal candidate will be self-motivating, pro-active and a degree in accounting. We are a growing coastal and marine engineering firm 8 offices throughout Florida serving both private and public clients. The Coral Gables office serves as Head Quarter for the company.
The job includes working with Project Managers and Controller to ensure accurate and up-to-date project reporting and record-keeping regarding budget, revenue, cost, invoicing, and collections throughout the lifecycle of multiple projects.
TYPICAL FUNCTIONS
- Assigns and opens projects in the accounting system which includes making sure that the information provided by the PM is in line with the contract
- Maintain project-related records, including executed contracts and change orders; files to be promptly saved in SharePoint
- Authorize access to project accounts
- Authorize the transfer of expenses into and out of project-related accounts
- Review and approve supplier invoices and charges related to a project
- Investigate project variances and submits variance reports to accounting supervisor
- Collaborate with PM’s regarding unpaid Invoices
- Report on project profitability
- Report to accounting supervisor regarding the remaining Backlog available for projects
- Close out project accounts upon project completion
- Create and submit government reports and tax returns related to projects
- Compile information for internal and external auditors, as required
- Review project budgets, including staffing, work plans, and fee structures.
- Provide project managers and clients with timely financial reports and budgets, as well as project forecasts.
- Prepare pre-billing reports for project managers to review.
- Monitor receivable income and supporting project managers with collections.
- Consultant set up, making sure subconsultant agreements are in place, Non-Disclosure agreements, Certificates of insurance and licenses, if applicable
- Issue invoices, as well as paying consultant, subcontractor, vendor, and supplier bills.
- Ensure a steady cash flow by generating, auditing, and sending invoices in a timely manner.
- Update contracts according to client requirements and reporting associated budget amendments.
COMPETENCIES
- Proficient in the full suite of Microsoft Office software
- Experience with accounting software such as Deltek Vantagepoint or similar,
- Organized and detail oriented and able to manage multiple tasks and interdepartmental reporting needs
- Ability to perform in a fast-paced team environment; self-motivated and possesses excellent time management and organizational skills
- Possesses excellent internal and external customer service skills • Maintains a positive attitude and collaborative spirit.
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- 4-year Accounting or related degree with 10 years of experience
- Experience in cost accounting or project accounting within the Architect / Engineering / Construction (AEC) industry
