About the Role:

The Cook in a healthcare and social assistance setting plays a vital role in preparing nutritious and safe meals tailored to the dietary needs of members. This position ensures that all food preparation complies with health regulations and organizational standards, contributing directly to the well-being and recovery of those served. The Cook collaborates closely with dietitians, head chefs, and kitchen staff to deliver meals that meet specific nutritional guidelines while maintaining high quality and taste. Attention to detail and manual dexterity are essential to efficiently handle food production tasks and maintain a clean, organized kitchen environment. Ultimately, the Cook supports the healthcare team by providing meals that promote health, comfort, and satisfaction for all individuals in care.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Proven experience in food preparation and cooking, preferably in a healthcare or institutional setting.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently to understand instructions and communicate effectively.
  • Demonstrated manual dexterity and physical stamina to stand for long periods and perform kitchen tasks.
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards applicable to healthcare environments.
  • Basic understanding of dietary restrictions and nutritional requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working under the supervision of a head chef or in a team-oriented kitchen environment.
  • Certification in food safety or culinary arts.
  • Familiarity with specialized diets such as diabetic, low-sodium, or allergen-free meal preparation.
  • Ability to climb stairs and handle physically demanding kitchen duties comfortably.
  • Previous experience in health care or social assistance food service settings.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and cook meals based on prescribed dietary plans, ensuring nutritional requirements and menu guidelines are met.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen environment, including proper storage and handling of ingredients.
  • Assist the head chef with food production tasks and follow instructions to ensure timely and accurate meal service.
  • Monitor food quality and ensure compliance with all health, safety, and dietary regulations.
  • Communicate with kitchen staff and healthcare personnel to accommodate special dietary needs, while performing physical tasks such as lifting and standing for extended periods.
