The Caring Place (@Miami Rescue Mission & Broward Outreach Centers) is a leading provider of services to the homeless and needy of South Florida. We are looking for like-minded, dynamic individuals to come and join our team. The Caring Place provides emergency shelter, residential programs, job training, education & computer literacy classes, healthcare, transitional housing, permanent housing, employment opportunities for homeless men, women, and children as well as programs for “at-risk” youth.

We are currently seeking a FT Volunteer Coordinator at our Broward Outreach Centers in Hollywood, FL,


JOB SUMMARY

The Volunteer Coordinator works under the supervision of the Community Development Manager within the Community Development Department. The Volunteer Coordinator oversees and administers all matters in reference to Volunteers including acquiring, sustaining and documenting all volunteers.

CORE DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversees Campus Volunteers
    • Must have a good understanding of the The Caring Place and its goals for homeless clients while engaging volunteers and supporters to be closer to the cause of homelessness
    • Submits and keeps track of background checks, makes ID badges with expiration dates, and tracks volunteers who need to be rescreened (every 3 years)
    • Keeps abreast of rules for background checks from HR and keeps detailed records for those volunteers
    • Maintains accurate volunteer records (sign-in sheets, etc.) and provides timely statistical activity reports on volunteer participation including entry of hours of volunteers into the database
    • Answers and returns all calls including web inquiries regarding volunteers, and community service opportunities/events in a timely manner
    • Coordinates volunteer orientations and training (informs volunteers of policies, procedures and standards of volunteer service)
    • Recruits, screens, interviews, and schedules applicants for volunteer work and special events
    • Maintains all volunteer display boards by keeping them updated on a monthly basis (including volunteer of the month and group of the month)
    • Maintains strict confidentiality of clients, volunteers and donors

  • Maintain systematic tracking outcomes for Gift-In-Kind (GIK), monies and volunteering
    • Further the income revenue through, GIK, monies, drives and professional volunteer hours
    • Keeps track of volunteer hours on a spreadsheet and sends out thank you notes, birthday cards and gifts
    • Maintains the various calendars of the Community Development Department in Broward including keeping the Volunteer Hollywood Calendar updated at all times

  • Other duties include
    • Works with staff members to form relationships between staff and volunteers
    • Trains volunteers to follow protocols of the department they are assigned to assist
    • Maintains monthly Bible Study calendars along with campus Chaplain


EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Requires a High School diploma or GED
  • Must have one (1) year of experience in a non-profit organization or general office setting
  • Must be proficient in the use of MS Office Suite (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
  • Requires excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact with staff, vendors and supports in a professional and courteous manner
  • Must be extremely organized and able to prioritize tasks
  • A high level of accuracy and confidentiality is required
  • Will lead and/or participate in devotions, prayers, or other ministry activities ex. outreach events
  • Must be in agreement with and sign The Caring Place Statement of Faith

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to sit for extended periods, and have the ability to lift and/or carry objects weighing up to 25 pounds
  • Must be able to see, hear and speak, in order to interact with staff and the general public
  • Must be able to move around as needed to perform essential job duties
