Job Summary:

GalaxyCon is a festival of fandom that celebrates comic books, pop culture, sci-fi, fantasy, anime, gaming, cosplay, and more. GalaxyCon is more than a comic-con, its a galaxy of fun!



The HR & Office Manager is a dual-role position, responsible for leading human resources functions while also overseeing daily office operations at our Fort Lauderdale headquarters. This individual plays a key role in supporting our team, maintaining compliance, fostering company culture, and ensuring the physical office environment is well-managed, welcoming, and efficient.


This is not a remote position. This position will need to be in the offices in Fort Lauderdale, FL.


Key Responsibilities:

  • End-to-End HR Management: Independently manage the full HR function, ensuring smooth day-to-day operations and full legal compliance at the federal, state, and local levels.
  • Talent Acquisition: Lead full-cycle recruitmentfrom writing job descriptions and sourcing candidates to conducting interviews and extending offers.
  • Onboarding & Training: Create and oversee new hire onboarding, orientation, and initial training to ensure successful integration into the team.
  • Hiring Compliance: Complete employment verifications, I-9 documentation, and stay current with hiring regulations.
  • Job Board Oversight: Manage and optimize job postings across various platforms to attract high-quality applicants.
  • Timekeeping & Payroll: Oversee time tracking, approve PTO, and process weekly payroll accurately and on schedule.
  • Accounting: Complete expense reimbursements for employees, light bookkeeping to manage invoices, expenses, reconciliation, etc.
  • Benefits Administration: Serve as the primary point of contact for benefits questions, oversee enrollment, and manage annual open enrollment processes.
  • Policy Development: Draft, revise, and enforce HR policies and the employee handbook in compliance with legal standards and company values.
  • Employee Relations: Mediate conflicts, resolve employee concerns, and help foster a positive and inclusive workplace culture.

Office Management & Operations (On-Site)

  • Act as the point person for the day-to-day operations of the Fort Lauderdale office.
  • Manage incoming and outgoing mail and packages; ensure timely distribution to staff.
  • Oversee office cleanliness, supplies, maintenance requests, and vendor relationships (cleaning, equipment, repairs).
  • Welcome guests and coordinate in-office meetings, including room setup and refreshments.
  • Maintain security access, keys, parking passes, or badges for employees and guests.
  • Other job duties as assigned


Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of progressive HR experience
  • Proven ability to independently run all HR functions in a small to mid-size company
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. employment law and HR best practices
  • Experience leading recruitment and onboarding efforts from start to finish
  • Skilled in payroll processing, benefits administration, and HRIS implementation
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage sensitive situations with discretion and professionalism
  • HR certification (e.g., PHR, SHRM-CP) preferred but not required
  • A passion for comic books, pop culture, sci-fi, fantasy, anime, gaming, cosplay, and more
  • A willingness and ability to travel to GalaxyCon events, which may require working on weekends and holidays
