Position Overview:

The Cost Accountant is a key member of the finance team, responsible for managing all cost accounting activities related to Perry Ellis International's wholesale inventory. This role requires a detail-oriented professional to ensure the accuracy of inventory valuation, analyze cost variances, and provide critical financial insights to support business decisions. The ideal candidate possesses strong analytical skills and a solid understanding of GAAP and cost accounting principles.


Responsibilities

  • Inventory Costing & Maintenance: Maintain and update the cost accounting system to accurately reflect the cost of wholesale inventory. This includes standard cost setting, maintaining Bills of Material (BOMs), and ensuring data integrity.
  • Cost Analysis & Reporting: Analyze and report on cost variances related to production, procurement, and inventory. Prepare detailed reports on inventory turns, excess and obsolete inventory, and margin analysis.
  • Reconciliation & Month-End Close: Prepare and post journal entries related to cost of goods sold (COGS) and inventory. Reconcile inventory accounts to the general ledger and assist with month-end and year-end close procedures.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with sourcing, production, and merchandising teams to understand and track product costs. Provide financial analysis to support strategic initiatives and pricing decisions.
  • Audit Support: Assist with internal and external audits by providing documentation and analysis related to inventory and COGS.
  • Special projects and other tasks as assigned.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in a cost accounting or inventory accounting role, preferably within the apparel, retail, or consumer goods industry.
  • Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and cost accounting methodologies.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite) and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform detailed analysis and prepare accurate financial reports.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with NetSuite or similar financial reporting systems.
  • Prior experience with licensing agreements, legal accounting, or forensic accounting.
  • Experience in the wholesale or retail industry.
