Job Description
Definition:
The title of “Sexton” in the Episcopal Church means, “a person who looks after a church and churchyard”.
Therefore, at Bethesda-by-the-Sea, our facility workers are referred to as Sextons, and the Director of
Facilities is the Lead Sexton. The “Church Mouse” is a high-end resale shop and a ministry of The Church of Bethesda-by-the-Sea.
This is a full-time position on the staff of The Church of Bethesda-by-the-Sea. Considered a part of the
Bethesda Sexton team., with primary responsibilities and work hours at the Church Mouse shop. Specialty
Responsibilities are listed below.
Accountability:
Reports to the Lead Sexton and Store Manager to gain accountability, direction and needs assessment.
Qualifications:
• Minimum High School diploma or GED.
• Ability to read, communicate, comprehend, and carry out instructions in English.
• Must be a self-starter, capable of taking initiative while at the same time being responsible and
accountable to other staff members with whom they will be working.
• Christ-like attitude towards colleagues, parishioners, vendors, and members of the community.
• Absolute dependability and honesty required.
• Ability to make personal connections, connecting with people of all backgrounds.
• Physical and emotional good health and social poise.
• Availability to perform duties on weekends, and holidays in addition to weekday hours.
• Ability to work independently.
• Physical and sensory abilities necessary to perform all essential job functions and responsibilities safely
and successfully, including, but not limited not: the ability to climb steps and ladders, bend, pull and
push and the ability to move and carry objects that may weigh up to 50 lbs.
• Prior sales experience.
Job Functions:
• General:
o Maintain a clean work area, vehicle, organized and tidy work area.
o Provide exceptional customer service.

o Assist as Sales Associate when needed.
o Understand the operations for sales including the register, pricing, etc.
o Continuous standing, walking, movement
o Intermittent climbing stairs, ladders and working at heights.
o Intermittent lowering or lifting items weighing 20-50 pounds.
o Seldom lifting or lowering items weighing 100 pounds or more.
o Cleaning of items such as floors, furniture or bathrooms throughout the day.
o Working as a member of the Sexton team.
• Receiving:
o Receiving, organizing, and prepping clothing.
o Pressing and tagging clothing.
• Inventory:
o Organize and label products for inventory.
o Organizing store storage
o Assist customers getting their purchases to, and into, their vehicles.
o Dismantling or assembling of furniture.
o Performing minor repairs.
o Assist with relocation of items within the store.
o Assist staff with moving items from store storage to store floor for sale.
• Deliveries and Acquisitions:
o Assist with store pickup and deliveries.
• Additional duties as assigned by Lead Sexton, Store Manager, or Parish Administrator.

The Church Mouse sells clothing, furniture, jewelry, art and much more. in Palm Beach. All the items sold at the store are donated. The revenue from the store is used to support the mission and outreach of Bethesda. This includes approximately a half a million dollars given to organizations and ministries throughout our county and state.
