The Classical Academy of Sarasota is seeking a full-time bus driver. The bus driver's primary responsibility is to safely transport students to and from school, as well as to other school-related events. This involves adhering to designated routes and schedules, ensuring the safety of students during loading and unloading, maintaining order on the bus, and performing pre-trip vehicle inspections.

This position requires a strong commitment to safety, as drivers must adhere to all traffic laws and regulations while operating a school bus. The School Bus Driver contributes significantly to the educational experience by providing reliable transportation that allows students to focus on their learning.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B with passenger and school bus endorsements is required
  • Clean driving record with no major violations.
  • Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience driving large vehicles or buses.
  • Familiarity with DOT regulations and safety standards.
  • Basic knowledge of vehicle maintenance and troubleshooting.

Responsibilities:

  • Safe Transportation: Driving the bus along established routes, adhering to traffic laws and school district policies, and ensuring the safe transport of students to their destinations.
  • Student Safety: Ensuring students are safely loaded and unloaded, maintaining order on the bus, and addressing any safety concerns or disciplinary issues.
  • Pre-Trip and Post-Trip Inspections: Conducting daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections to ensure the bus is in safe operating condition.
  • Daily Upkeep: Sweep the bus daily and keep it clean. When messes or spills occur, clean them up.
  • Record Keeping: Maintaining records of mileage, passenger counts, and other relevant information as required by TCA.
  • Communication: Effectively communicating with students, parents, and school administration regarding routes, schedules, and any student-related issues.
  • Vehicle Maintenance: Reporting any mechanical issues or maintenance needs to the appropriate personnel.
  • Compliance: Adhering to all traffic laws, school bus regulations, and TCA policies related to student transportation.
  • Customer Service: Providing a positive and safe environment for students while on the bus.
  • Emergency Procedures: Being prepared to respond to emergencies and follow established protocols for handling incidents or accidents.
