SUMMARY:

The Staff Accountant is responsible for accounts payable, expense and invoice tracking, assisting with daily accounting processes, and month-end close procedures. This role ensures the integrity of accounting information and provides financial support across all departments.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain accurate financial records by properly recording, filing, and reporting all financial transactions through the accounts payable subledger.
  • Process vendor transactions in the company's accounting system, ensuring proper coding, approval routing, and accurate payment processing via check or ACH.
  • Maintain vendor records up to date including accurate contact and payment information.
  • Reconciles company credit card transactions on a monthly basis ensuring proper GL coding.
  • Maintain W-9 forms and manage 1099 filing process at year-end.
  • Support the month-end and year-end close process by assisting with balance sheet account reconciliations including accruals.
  • Assist with external audit requests by providing necessary documentation and information.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist the team with special projects or tasks as needed.
  • Serve as backup for various accounting functions.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • This is not a supervisory position.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Management, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in accounting or a related field.
  • Advanced proficiency with Excel required.
  • Knowledge of US GAAP, auditing, and accounting principles, standards, and practices.
  • Experience with accounting software and financial systems.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge or experience with agencies involved in homelessness, childcare, and funding social services preferred.
  • Must possess outstanding critical thinking skills and the ability to analyze and interpret data.
  • Ability to work quickly and accurately processing large volumes of data.
  • Ability to be mission-focused, empathetic, sincere, assertive, and confident.
  • Ability to be professional, flexible, respectful, and calm.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Effective time management skills.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
