Job Title: Controller

Overview:
Career Staffing Talent (CST) has partnered with a well-established litigation law firm to recruit an experienced Controller to lead its financial operations and strategy. This executive-level role is responsible for the planning, implementation, and oversight of all financial activities, including reporting, forecasting, internal controls, cash management, and compliance.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting and finance within a professional services or legal environment and a hands-on approach to process improvement and decision support.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead all accounting, budgeting, audit, tax compliance, and financial reporting aspects.
- Manage daily cash flow across multiple bank accounts; oversee account activity, reconciliation, and wire transfers.
- Develop and enforce robust internal controls to ensure compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements.
- Oversee monthly close processes, journal entries, general ledger maintenance, and financial statement preparation.
- Produce financial reports and forecasts that inform leadership on income, expenses, and earnings.
- Maintain and enhance relationships with banks, vendors, and strategic partners.
- Supervise the firms budgeting process, including development, implementation, and ongoing forecasting.
- Prepare and support annual tax filings, including K-1 schedules for equity partners.
- Present financial data and insights at partner meetings and strategic planning sessions.
- Evaluate the financial impact of new business opportunities, practice areas, or potential mergers.
- Recommend and implement system upgrades, process improvements, and best practices.
- Direct internal and external financial reporting and respond to firm-wide business surveys.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (Masters degree or CPA preferred).
- Minimum 5 years of senior-level financial management experience, preferably in a law firm or professional services environment.
- Deep understanding of GAAP, tax compliance, budgeting, and forecasting.
- Experience managing multi-account cash operations and financial system upgrades.
- Strong leadership, communication, and analytical skills.
- Proven ability to influence strategic decision-making through financial insight.
