Postion Summary
Build positive relationships and actively coach a group of drivers while managing specific business key metrics. This includes achieving maximum fleet productivity and profitability by reaching weekly utilization goals and monitoring operating revenue and cost. Driver Managers are accountable for ensuring safe standards of operation are practiced while meeting all customer pickup and delivery requirements. As a Driver Manager you are required to use an open, interactive coaching/mentoring approach to create driver success and retain our driving professionals.
Essential Functions
• Listen and communicate effectively with other non-driving staff; function as a liaison between the driver and other departments to facilitate problem resolution.
• Hold drivers accountable for quality performance, address non-performance or substandard issues timely and effectively.
• Accept or reject freight from planning group based on a solid understanding of DOT Hours of Service Regulations.
• Counsel and discipline driving force when necessary, based on Oakley policy.
• Provide complete load information, including routing and directions to ensure drivers are fully prepared for work assignment. Ensure driver success through relationship building, effective communication, positive recognition and timely addressing of issues (personal and performance related).
• Track percentage of trucks on home time and ensure that all trucks/drivers are complying with Oakley policy.
• Work a flexible schedule in accordance with the needs of drivers and other demands of the position.
• Responsibility of daily reports: Supervisor board, Tractor by supervisor.
• Responsible for KPI's: Dispatches with greater than 300 empty miles, Loads to watch, Available status report, Inactive trailer report, Available loads, Individual DM deadhead, DM utilization, Drivers with check less than $600, Broke down equipment, Total power assets to operate division, Dashboard, Weekly fuel purchased, Total seated/unseated power assets, Trailer utilization, Weekly fuel economy, Low revenue production per driver and DM, Dispatch detail records, Rate per mile gross by DM - weekly/monthly, Rate per mile net of FSC
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
• Responsible for Driver Retention. Retain quality driving professionals.
• Ensure that all computer work is accurate and up to date.
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
• High School diploma or equivalent required
• Bachelor's degree or some post-secondary education preferred
• Effective oral, written and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to influence.
• Comfortable with technology; knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Outlook, Word and Excel.
• Prior transportation industry experience required.
• General knowledge of the transportation industry and equipment is desirable.
• Excellent "one-on-one" communications skills necessary to disseminate information to drivers to develop a
successful business relationship with drivers, customers, etc.
• Ability to operate phone, fax, voicemail and Qualcomm communications systems.
• Computer knowledge and data entry skills necessary to effectively complete job duties.
• Ability to maintain composure and react professionally during periods of stress with somewhat limited
information periodically.
• Demonstrate the ability to anticipate and evaluate problems and situations and draw logical conclusions and
implement practical solutions.
• Demonstrate effective planning, organizing and multi-tasking skills
