Summary:
Under limited supervision, performs a variety of accounting functions and prepares reconciliations for various ledger and subsidiary accounts. Reviews, directs, and validates financial and accounting transactions; and performs other related duties as assigned.
Duties/Responsibilities:(which are not in any hierarchical order)
- 1. Prepares journal entries and fund transfer requests.
2. Balances encumbrances, general ledger and subsidiary ledgers.
3. Reconcile various general ledger accounts to supporting information provided by other departments.
4. Maintains documents and records related to financial analyses, statements, and reports.
5. Communicates with other departments.
6. Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly and year end close process.
7. Prepares and assists in preparing financial statements, reports and analysis; maintains or assists in maintaining general and subsidiary ledgers and supporting schedules for a variety of accounts.
8. Assists in the research, evaluation and implementation of new Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) Statements.
9. Assists in the preparation of the City’s Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR).
10. Reviews accounting documents to ensure accuracy and makes correcting entries as required: examines supporting documentation to establish proper authorization and conformance with agreements, contracts and federal, state and local laws, codes and regulations.
11. Prepares and assists in reconciliation of the City’s bank accounts and investment accounts to the general ledger.
12. Establishes positive working relationships with other public agencies, business and community groups, consultants, legal counsel and departments.
13. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications: (Based on area of assignment)
- • Knowledge of general ledger accounting.
• Knowledge of automated financial systems.
• Knowledge and application of generally accepted accounting principles.
• Skill in analyzing financial information.
• Skill in writing financial statements and other reports.
• Skill in using computer and financial application software.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree with a major in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related field (education will be verified using the “Education Requirements” listed below) and one (1) year of working related experience, or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
A current and valid Florida driver’s license is required. For application purposes, a valid driver’s license from any state (equivalent to a State of Florida Class E) may be utilized; with the ability to obtain the State of Florida driver’s license within thirty (30) days from date of employment.

Salary: $28.94 per hour
Schedule:
- 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
- Monday to Friday
Ability to commute/relocate:
- West Palm Beach, FL: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Preferred)
