HUMAN RESOURCES GENERALIST

Summary/Objective
The Human Resources (HR) Generalist supports the mission of Habitat for Humanity Greater Orlando & Osceola County by running the daily operations of the HR department. This includes managing employee lifecycle functions such as recruitment, on-boarding, performance support, benefits administration, and compliance. The HR Generalist plays a key role in fostering a positive workplace culture and ensuring alignment with organizational values and legal requirements. This is a fully in-office position located at our main office on Silver Star Road.
Compensation: Starting at $60,000 per year, based on experience.

Reports to: Chief Operating Officer
Essential Functions
- Training & Compliance:
Reviews, tracks, and documents compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory training, continuing education, certifications, and work assessments. - Recruitment & Hiring:
Recruits, interviews, and facilitates the hiring of qualified candidates; collaborates with hiring managers to define role requirements and desired competencies. - Background Checks & Eligibility Verification:
Conducts or facilitates background checks and ensures employee eligibility through proper verification processes. - On-boarding & Orientation:
Implements new hire orientation, on-boarding processes, and employee recognition programs. - HR Program Administration:
Administers and executes core HR programs including compensation, benefits, leave, disciplinary matters, performance and talent management, morale, health and safety, and development. - Payroll Support:
Coordinates with the Finance Department to process bi-weekly payroll and ensure all payroll changes are properly documented. - Employee Relations:
Responds to employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors; escalates sensitive or complex matters to the COO or appropriate leadership. - Disciplinary & Investigative Support:
Leads and participates in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations. - Leave Management:
Manages employee leave programs in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations. - Policy Compliance:
Ensures organizational compliance with employment laws and regulations; recommends policy and procedural updates to maintain legal and best practice standards. - HR Knowledge & Trends:
Maintains awareness of industry trends, best practices, new technologies, and regulatory changes in HR and employment law. - Employee Engagement & Culture:
Supports a positive and inclusive organizational culture through initiatives such as engagement surveys, team-building activities, and employee feedback efforts. - Performance Management:
Supports the performance evaluation cycle by training supervisors, ensuring completion of reviews, and reinforcing best practices in coaching and goal setting. - HRIS & Data Management:
Maintains the HR Information System (HRIS); ensures data accuracy and generates reports to support decision-making and workforce planning. - Policy Development & Communication:
Assists in the development and communication of HR policies and employee handbook updates. - Off-boarding & Exit Interviews:
Manages the off-boarding process, including exit interviews, knowledge transfer, and benefits transition. - Org Charts & Job Descriptions:
Maintains accurate organizational charts and up-to-date job descriptions in coordination with department leaders. - Volunteer/Intern Support (if applicable):
Supports HR-related functions for interns or volunteers where applicable.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no supervisory responsibility.
Work Environment
This is a fully in-office position. The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The role routinely involves standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands, reach with hands and arms, listen, and communicate. The employee must be capable of lifting and/or moving up to 20 pounds as needed and will occasionally be required to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time, salaried position. Regular office hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Some early mornings, evenings, and weekends may be required.
Travel
Travel, if any, is primarily local during business hours. Mileage is reimbursed.
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Nonprofit Management, or a related field.
- At least two years of Human Resource experience.
- Must obtain an Anti-Money Laundering certificate within the first 90 days and maintain it annually (training provided by Habitat).
- Must obtain a Safeguarding certificate within the first 90 days and maintain it annually (training provided by Habitat).
Preferred Education and Experience
- Prior experience using ADP for payroll and recruitment.
- SHRM-CP certification a plus.
- Prior nonprofit experience.
- Bi-lingual in Spanish (able to speak, read, write, and understand).
