Position Overview
The Food Runner / Busser plays an essential role in supporting front-of-house operations by ensuring timely food delivery, maintaining immaculate dining areas, and assisting service staff in delivering a seamless, luxury-level dining experience. This position requires a strong sense of urgency, attention to detail, and the ability to anticipate service needs in a fast-paced, high-touch hospitality environment. The ideal candidate demonstrates professionalism, teamwork, and a commitment to excellence in guest service.
Key Responsibilities
Food Delivery & Service Flow
- Deliver food from the kitchen to guests promptly, accurately, and in accordance with presentation standards.
- Verify order accuracy, proper garnishing, and plate presentation prior to delivery.
- Communicate with kitchen and service teams regarding timing, special requests, and guest needs.
- Support efficient pacing of courses to ensure a smooth and coordinated dining experience.
Guest Interaction & Dining Support
- Assist servers in delivering attentive, courteous, and polished service at all times.
- Respond professionally to guest requests and relay information to the appropriate service team member.
- Maintain awareness of guest needs, table progression, and service timing.
- Contribute to a warm, welcoming, and refined dining atmosphere consistent with luxury hospitality standards.
Table, Station & Dining Area Maintenance
- Clear and reset tables efficiently between courses and for new guests.
- Remove used dishes, glassware, and utensils discreetly while minimizing disruption.
- Assist with proper table settings, including linens, silverware, glassware, and décor elements.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of dining rooms, service stations, hallways, and back-of-house areas.
- Refill water, bread service, and other table accompaniments as needed.
Team Collaboration & Operational Support
- Work closely with servers, captains, kitchen, and bar staff to ensure seamless service execution.
- Assist with side work, opening and closing duties, and special event preparation as assigned.
- Support banquet or private dining service when scheduled.
- Follow direction from leadership while proactively identifying ways to support service flow.
Compliance, Safety & Standards
- Adhere to all health, safety, and sanitation regulations, including proper handling of food, dishes, trays, and cleaning materials.
- Maintain knowledge of service standards, menus, and allergen awareness.
- Report spills, safety hazards, or maintenance concerns to management immediately.
- Comply with company policies, grooming standards, and professional appearance guidelines.
Qualifications
- Prior experience as a Food Runner, Busser, or in fine dining or luxury hospitality preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and a high level of personal accountability.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and remain composed under pressure.
- Flexible availability, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds (e.g., trays, dish racks, supplies).
- Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and perform repetitive motions efficiently.
- Ability to safely navigate stairs, narrow spaces, and potentially slippery or uneven surfaces
