Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Lead Accountant / Accounting Manager with strong tax expertise and hands-on accounting experience to join our commercial property management office. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proactive, and comfortable working in a small-office environment where flexibility and ownership are key.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting Management & Oversight
- Supervise and review work of the staff accountant.
- Manage day-to-day accounting activities, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.
- Record accounts receivable (A/R) payments and make required bank deposits.
- Calculate, record, and pay sales tax accurately and on schedule.
- Record and reconcile retail business sales on a daily/weekly basis.
- Perform bank reconciliations and resolve discrepancies.
- Review, refine, and finalize monthly Income Statements and Balance Sheets.
- Complete credit card reconciliations as needed.
- Prepare, file, and remit federal, state, and local taxes for multiple entities.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of tax codes, regulations, and compliance requirements.
- Handle complex accounting tasks, including prepaid insurance, lease commission capitalization, tenant fit-up costs, and depreciation schedules.
eQualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.
- CPA and/or MBA highly preferred, but not required.
- Minimum of 7+ years of professional accounting experience, including tax preparation and filings; commercial real estate or property management industry a plus.
- Strong knowledge of sales tax and state tax calculations and filing
- Hands-on accounting experience, with ability to “roll up your sleeves” in a small office setting.
- Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Yardi, MRI, or similar).
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
• A minimum of 7 years of detailed and focused accounting experience, including corporate tax preparation.
• CPA certification or equivalent expertise in tax and accounting practices.
• Strong knowledge of IRS tax codes and laws, particularly for multi-entity organizations.
• Proficiency in managing accounts payable (AP) and accounts receivable (AR) processes.
• Experience with reconciling prepaid assets and expenses, as well as other financial accounts.
• Ability to create and refine accurate financial statements, including Income Statements and Balance Sheets.
• Familiarity with annual tax preparation and month-end close procedures.
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to manage complex financial data.
