Job Summary

BMG Money is looking for an analytical and governance-minded Embedded Data Steward – Finance to ensure the integrity, consistency, and traceability of finance-related data. This role will partner with Finance, FP&A, Risk, and the Data Office to drive trust in financial reporting, forecasting, and analytics by ensuring robust governance over key financial data assets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Finance data domain steward, responsible for aligning financial data usage with enterprise policies and regulatory obligations.
  • Define, maintain, and socialize data definitions, business rules, and financial hierarchies (e.g., general ledger mappings, account classifications, cost center structures).
  • Ensure proper data sourcing, lineage documentation, and reconciliation across financial systems, BI tools, and regulatory reports.
  • Partner with Accounting and FP&A to monitor data quality KPIs, investigate variances, and improve trust in monthly/quarterly close and budgeting processes.
  • Collaborate with data engineers and analysts to document and validate metrics logic for financial dashboards and strategic reports.
  • Assist with the identification and remediation of data integrity risks related to revenue, expenses, provisioning, and regulatory filings.
  • Support internal and external audits by maintaining data traceability and access logs for sensitive financial data.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Implement and oversee robust controls to ensure the accuracy and completeness of financial data in the general ledger, accounting systems, and reporting platforms.
  • Establish and enforce data governance policies for key financial data domains (e.g., loan receivables, revenue recognition, payment processing). Ensure data practices comply with accounting standards and financial regulations.
  • Ensure the integrity of data used for monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, regulatory reports, and investor reporting. Manage data reconciliation processes between servicing, banking, and accounting systems.
  • Act as a key point of contact for internal and external auditors, providing required data, documentation, and evidence of data controls to ensure a seamless audit process.
  • Define and maintain the official business glossary for financial metrics and data elements. Document data lineage to ensure transparency and traceability from source systems to final reports.
  • Partner with IT and the finance team to enhance financial systems and data architecture, ensuring data quality is built into processes.
  • Collaborate with IT Security to define and implement appropriate security classifications and access controls for sensitive financial data.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in financial data management, financial systems, or accounting operations.
  • Understanding of GAAP accounting principles, financial reporting structures, and budget planning processes.
  • Proficient in tools such as Excel, SQL, Power BI, Looker, and GCP-based data platforms.
  • Experience working with financial systems (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite, Oracle Financials) is a plus.
  • Strong business acumen and ability to translate data issues into financial risk or impact.
  • In-depth knowledge of accounting principles (GAAP), financial processes, and financial reporting.
  • Experience with accounting software (e.g., NetSuite, QuickBooks), ERP systems, and business intelligence (BI) tools.
