Summary/objective

The GSE Mechanic is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of ground support equipment used in aviation operations. This includes equipment such as aircraft tugs, belt loaders, ground power units, air conditioning units, and refueling vehicles. The role ensures that all equipment operates safely and efficiently to support aircraft ground operations.

Essential functions

· Performs preventive maintenance inspections and service on machines.

· Thoroughly cleans machines and machine parts, removing parts and reinstalling as necessary.

· Oils and lubricates moving parts on machines to ensure effective performance.

· Perform routine and preventive maintenance on a variety of ground support equipment.

· Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems on GSE.

· Conduct inspections to identify potential issues and ensure compliance with safety and operational standards.

· Develop and implement solutions to address and rectify equipment issues promptly.

· Records and reports damaged, worn, or broken parts.

· Orders and installs replacement parts for machines.

· Identifies the causes of unexpected breakdowns of machines.

· Repairs broken machines quickly and efficiently.

· Adhere to all safety procedures and regulations while performing maintenance and repair tasks.

· Ensure equipment is properly maintained and meets safety standards before use.

· Report any safety hazards or issues to the appropriate personnel.

· Prepares reports documenting work performed (maintenance activities, repairs and inspections).

· Cleans, organizes, inventories, stocks, and otherwise maintains shop areas, parts, tools, and supplies.

· Work closely with other maintenance staff and departments to coordinate repair activities and minimize equipment downtime.

· Provide guidance and training to junior mechanics or other team members as needed.

· Coordinates with managers to schedule regular maintenance on machines.

· Makes necessary modifications and implements tests runs; confers with manager regarding test results and makes additional alterations to machinery as required.

· Work onsite at customer locations, as needed.

Supervisory responsibilities

· None.

Work environment

· Work Conditions: The job may involve working in outdoor environments, around heavy machinery, and in varying weather conditions.

· Schedule: Monday – Friday

Physical demands

· Prolonged periods standing and walking.

· Able to bend, stretch, push, pull, and move as needed to reach, clean, and service machinery.

· Must be able to visually inspect machines.

· Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds unassisted.

Travel required

· Certain employees will require travel. Travel expectations are communicated to impacted employees

Required education and experience

· High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification in automotive or heavy equipment repair preferred.

· Welding experience

Preferred education and experience

· Proven experience as a mechanic, preferably with ground support equipment or related fields.

· Proven experience as a mechanic, preferably with fuel trucks.

· Relevant certifications (e.g., ASE, EPA) are a plus.
