Summary Objective
The Material Control Superintendent supports the Material Control Manager by overseeing day-to-day material handling, logistics coordination, and inventory control activities across assigned areas and shifts. This role ensures consistent execution of established processes, maintains alignment with production needs, and supports safe, accurate, and timely movement of materials throughout the facility. The Superintendent provides leadership to material control personnel, reinforces departmental standards, and assists with maintaining 6S and inventory accuracy expectations.
Essential Functions
- Support the Material Control Manager in daily oversight of material control operations.
- Provide direct leadership to Material Control Foremen and employees across assigned shifts.
- Ensure receiving, material handling, kitting, storage, and inventory activities follow established processes and safety requirements.
- Monitor material flow from receiving through point-of-use to maintain schedule adherence.
- Verify proper material identification, labeling, and traceability in accordance with company procedures.
- Coordinate internal logistics, material movement, replenishment, and staging activities.
- Assist with inventory verification activities, including physical counts and discrepancy resolution.
- Ensure proper handling and segregation of damaged or nonconforming (NG) materials.
- Oversee consumables management, VMI restocking processes, and basic supplier-related material coordination as assigned.
- Monitor scrap and waste disposition to ensure compliance with safety and environmental guidelines.
- Ensure ship-loose materials and packaging requirements are prepared accurately and on time.
- Support cross-shift communication, including preparation and staging of materials for second-shift operations.
- Maintain 5S/6S standards within material storage, handling, and staging areas.
- Assist with training, coaching, and cross-training of material control employees.
- Provide operational feedback to the Material Control Manager and participate in process improvements as directed.
- Review daily operational performance indicators and communicate issues or delays promptly.

Work Location
This position is located at a Manufacturing Facility. This position is not approved for telecommuting or remote work.
Work Environment
Work is performed in both office and production floor environments, with routine exposure to indoor and outdoor storage areas.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit. The employee frequently is required to walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand. The employee must frequently lift or move objects up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move objects up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position, Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Occasional evening or weekend work may be required depending on production needs.
Travel
Some local day travel may be required. Occasional travel to customer sites or industry-related events may be necessary.
Required Education and Experience
- 3+ years of experience in material control, logistics, inventory management, or related manufacturing operations.
- 1+ years of experience leading or supervising teams in material handling, warehousing, or logistics
- Familiarity with 5S/6S and lean manufacturing principles.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and reporting tools.
- High School Diploma or GED required; additional education preferred.
Preferred Education and Experience
- Experience working in heavy manufacturing or fabrication environments
- Basic working knowledge of heavy equipment used in material movement (forklifts, telehandlers, etc.).
Work Authorization
Must be authorized to work in the USA.
